For my Bay Area friends, the Rotary Club of San Jose will be highlighting the amazing talents of the 4 Leigh Weimers Emerging Artist winners on Wednesday, October 18 at nine n at n the hammer Theater in downtown SJ. It’s free but you need to register. You won’t want to miss it!

Meet LWEA Winner Peter Clocasure! Peter shares how the award will impact his future plans: "I was stunned when I got the phone call telling me I'd won. So much of being a musician is sending music into the world and wondering if anyone is listening. Being a Weimers emerging artist feels like an acknowledgement that someone is indeed listening. The cash prize means that I'm able to be fiscally generous with my musician friends that I'm constantly badgering to play on my albums. It also means I can fund a dance collaboration with the immensely talented choreographer Mariana Sobral. I'm enormously grateful."

We're listening, Peter!

Celebrate Peter and all the LWEA Award recipients at the live performance & celebration on Wednesday, October 18, 12:00 PM at the Hammer Theatre Center in . Admission is FREE. All art lovers are welcome! RSVP here: https://bit.ly/LWEAevent2023

Why are we reading Moby Dick?

Have you ever wanted to dive into Moby Dick, but just couldn't get past "Call me Ishmael?” Well, you’re not alone. So, we thought that this summer we would tackle this classic together, here in our online ICA Reads book club. The inspiration for this literary jaunt is our upcoming exhibition Diane Samuels: It’s a Long Story. Samuels creates monumental works by painstakingly and meticulously hand-transcribing entire novels in micro-script. The centerpiece of the ICA's exhibition is a transcription of Herman Melville's Moby Dick, written on remnants of archival paper and recycled prints with images pertaining to the text. “Call me Ishmael” is at the top of the work, which measures 47 feet long by 8 feet wide. So, whether you’ve never read it or can’t get enough of this tale of a whale, let's read Moby Dick together. And let's use this space to rave, groan, or simply delight in our collaborative journey through this classic. The culmination of our efforts will be the viewing of Samuel's breathtaking installation at the ICA in November! For those of you who would also like some in person dialogue, stay tuned for ICA Reads meet-ups in the gallery during the next few months.
