Kinda chic to spend your Friday night at an art museum. ✨

Join us at SLOMA for 𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘺 on September 4 — come for the art, bring your friends, meet your community, and be part of everything that’s growing at SLOMA.

𝘍𝘪𝘳𝘴𝘵 𝘍𝘳𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘺𝘴 at SLOMA is presented in participation with SLO County Art’s 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬 program. 𝘈𝘳𝘵 𝘈𝘧𝘵𝘦𝘳 𝘋𝘢𝘳𝘬 is a self-guided art walk led by the SLO County Arts Council that gives the community an opportunity to experience visual, literary, and performing art in venues across SLO County.

Bunnie Reiss’s forthcoming mural for SLOMA draws from the native landscape of California’s Central Coast, weaving together local birds and wildflowers in the bold, fluid visual language for which she is known. Spanning all of the exterior surfaces of the museum building, the work will feature species including Western Bluebird, California Scrub Jay, Hooded Oriole, Anna’s Hummingbird, House Finch, and Orange Crowned Warbler alongside native blooms — California Poppy, Lupine, Baby Blue Eyes, Coyote Mint, Purple Owl’s Clover, Solidago, and Common Goldfields. In Reiss’s longtime practice of celebrating the natural world through pattern, symbolism, shared joy, the piece will bring an exuberant sense of place to SLOMA’s exterior ahead of the museum’s forthcoming expansion.

SLOMA’s 2026 mural project is generously presented by City of San Luis Obispo , Music Road Trip .app, Megan’s Organic Market . Additional support provided by Innovation Drywall, UMB bank , Sherwin-Williams , Ed Cuming Custom Homes and Laura and Pat Mullen.

The recording of Alicia Adamerovich's 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘶𝘮𝘴 artist talk is now available!
Join artist Alicia Adamerovich and SLOMA Chief Curator Emma Saperstein as they explore the ideas, materials, and inspiration behind 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘶𝘮𝘴—an exhibition of paintings, sculptures, and works on paper that imagine a futuristic natural world.
Growing up surrounded by the forests of Pennsylvania, Adamerovich developed a lifelong fascination with nature. Through layered surfaces, unexpected light, and sculptural materials like wax, pumice, and sand, her work transforms painting into immersive, three-dimensional spaces.

🖼️ 𝘊𝘰𝘯𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘳𝘶𝘮𝘴 is on view in SLOMA's Gray Wing through October 18, 2026.

Does the painting feel more like something erupting or something falling apart? Do the colors or shapes evoke anything in particular in you?

𝘏𝘢𝘵𝘤𝘩 is a large circular painting that asks what happens when order and chaos meet. Artist Adrienne Allebe began by layering sharp, masked triangles across the surface, then poured paint freely to create organic drips that cut against the hard edges. Beneath it all lies another painting entirely, one whose colors and energy still echo through. The result feels like something breaking open: geometric patterns cracking under pressure, or a surface being pushed through from below. Working on the Central Coast, Allebe draws on the natural world to explore how we find meaning in shapes and forms. She is inspired by many things: natural processes like erosion, melting, and flooding, the visual language of science fiction, light, color, and space, and longstanding human fascinations with the supernatural, sacred geometry, and ancient spiritual practice.
