Domingo, you would have loved selfies 🤳 Filled with photographs of himself and the people and places around him, this scrapbook documents Domingo Salas and his life in Pasadena.

Salas was part of what's known as the manong generation, the first wave of Filipino immigrants to arrive en masse in the United States in the early 20th century. The term "manong" comes from the Ilocano word for "older brother."

Join curator Linde as we take a closer look at this unique scrapbook, on view now in our “This Land Is ...” exhibition.

Fifty years ago, Los Angeles’s American Indian community joined city and county governments in creating the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission (LANAIC). The first of its kind in the United States when it was established in 1976, the governmental board sought to address social and cultural issues affecting a population then estimated at 60,000 people from more than 100 tribal nations.

Join us on Indigenous Peoples' Day, Monday, Oct. 12, for a panel discussion commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Los Angeles City/County Native American Indian Commission. Register for this FREE event: https://bit.ly/4rXl2kw
