Our last tour of Union Square art and galleries was inspirational, not for the art and the way that downtown San Francisco is making a comeback. Dealers reported much more foot traffic and tourists were hanging out in Union Square. The art was fabulous!

An artist I represented in my gallery had studied with the great Bay Area Figurative Painter, Elmer Bischoff, so it’s been amazing to engage with his paintings from his estate that have been on view in a show-stopping museum-quality show at a gallery in the Mission. Last night curator Phil Linhares and others gathered to share stories about Bischoff and his art.

I’m going to lead a tour to see the paintings next Wednesday March 11th before the exhibition closes.

We’re also going to visit the studio of sculptor Jerry Barrish.
So many Bay Area artists don’t receive a lot of recognition even though their talents shine, and Jerry might be considered one of them. Jerry’s interest is in re-purposing found plastic into figurative forms.

We’ll have a chance to dissect the nature of these themes and explore the foundations of the artists’ creativity.
