Laurel Gorge Cultural Heritage Center The Laurel Gorge Cultural Heritage Center is dedicated to the on-going education of the heritage and Rental fees are $15/hr. during non-business hours.

In addition to activities hosted by LGCHC in our activity room, this room is also available for rentals. It's the perfect venue for birthday parties, baby showers, and small, intimate weddings. during regular business hours and $20/hr. We also have two backdrops available, with solid white drapes and lights, available for rent ($25/backdrop). Message or call 606-738-5543 for more information or to schedule your special event.

THANK YOU to all who came out for our BLOOMS & TUNES Open House today. The Laurel Gorge Dulcimer Club played a wonderful variety of patriotic songs, hymns, and other traditional songs; and several visitors joined volunteer Camila Haney for a hike to see the beautiful rhododendron blooms. We hope everyone enjoyed their time in the Laurel Gorge on this beautiful day.🙂

QUILTING ALONG — Tuesdays are sew days at LGCHC, and this week’s was a busy one! Several participants have begun a new quilt-along series with Liz Turner, and some sewed their first star block together on Tuesday of this week. They did an awesome job. We can’t wait to see the finished projects. Speaking of finished projects, Joanne brought in her completed armchair caddy which she started in last week’s sewing workshop, and Bev brought in two quilts she’d completed recently. We love to see on-going projects here at the Center, and we love to see the projects they complete at home. Quilting is not just part of our heritage around here; it continues to be a thriving art form here in Elliott County and surrounding areas, and we are happy to be part of it here at LGCHC. ❤️

CROSS-STITCHING THRU THE CALENDAR — Six sessions of cross-stitch are planned for the summer and will feature simple designs to represent all of the seasons and a few of the holidays as well. Last week’s design targeted January and February with a snowman and heart. This week featured a shamrock since St. Patrick’s Day is in March. Mary Alice started off with another project, where the design is stamped on the cloth and the stitches are bigger. The next session (Wednesday, June 24) will move us on to a spring design. RSVP by June 23 if you’d like to join the next session. We can get you caught up on previous designs as well. We will check in on Mary Alice’s progress later . . .

NO THURSDAY HIKE TODAY DUE TO RAIN — However, Camila Haney does have a hike planned for Saturday, June 20th. Come out and join us for our Blooms & Tunes Open House that day. The Laurel Gorge Dulcimer Club will perform from 11:30-12:30 and the guided hike with Camila begins at 1:00. Both events are free to the public. A hotdog lunch fundraiser will be available from 11:00-1:00. Come out enjoy the rhododendron BLOOMS & the dulcimer TUNES this Saturday at LGCHC! Entry gate and doors open 11:00 -5:00.
