[A Vibrant Celebration of Puerto Rican Rhythm & Culture! 🇵🇷🥁💃]

What an energetic and joyful Saturday it was! This past weekend, we immersed ourselves in the rich traditions of Afro-Puerto Rican music and dance during the 2026 Puerto Rico in Maryland Festival, hosted by Cultura Plenera

We kicked things off with the Bomba Dancing Workshop, where the acclaimed Julia Loiza Gutiérrez-Rivera guided participants through some traditional bomba dance moves, exploring the beautiful call-and-response connection between dancer and drummer. Right after, the rhythm kept moving with the Plena Percussion Workshop led by Nelson Matthew Gonzalez. Participants learned foundational rhythms on the panderetas (handheld frame drums) and experienced firsthand why Plena is lovingly called "the newspaper of the people" through its storytelling and infectious beats.

A huge thank you to Cultura Plenera our incredible instructors, and everyone who came out to dance, drum, and celebrate community with us!

The countdown is down to 5 days! To ensure a smooth arrival at the 2026 Strawberry Festival, here is everything you need to know about parking and free shuttles.

Skip the long parking lines by utilizing the designated overflow lots. Shuttle buses will run continuously throughout the day to get you to the festival grounds in no time, AND you will receive a coupon for $1 off a strawberry shortcake, just for parking in a satellite lot!

♿ Accessible Parking Note: Patrons using handicapped parking spots at Sharp Street Church can be picked up right at their cars by the shuttle bus.
