1765 MAP UNVEILED: The Museum of Seminole County History recently unveiled the historic 1765 map at the opening reception of the Fighting Florida exhibit. The map is the earliest known surveyed representation of our area — a cartographic record created by German surveyor William Gerard de Brahm.

The map showcases familiar landmarks, along with notations of early settlements and geographic features that predate the founding of Seminole County by more than 150 years. It serves as a groundbreaking link to our past, illustrating that our region was active during the colonial period and pointing to even earlier life in Central Florida.

The map was unveiled by County Chairman Jay Zembower, Museum Coordinator Bennett Lloyd, and the Seminole County Historical Commission. Museum visitors can view the map now through Friday, November 21, and learn more about the key figures who left their mark during the colonial era.
