Artist Helen C***a has long been interested in ways to incorporate printmaking with sculpture. ✨

"My experiments took me in many directions until I recognized that it is crucial the sculptural support be made of paper as are the prints. Each sculpture is constructed out of 4-ply matboard, essentially compressed archival paper. These architecturally inspired structures are then coated repeatedly with layers of unprinted, translucent Japanese paper. At this point the sculpture’s surface appears like sunbaked bone, the hard edges of the matboard having been softened with the layers of Japanese paper. Drypoint etchings printed on translucent Japanese paper are adhered to the sculpture forming a skin of intuitive, visual imagery. My intention with these sculptures is reinforced by combining the two mediums. The sculptural support and the prints work together moving beyond their individual identities providing new and unexpected meanings."

Spotlight on artist Josh Nozick! ✨

Check out his incredible sculptors and forms throughout the gallery. Each of his works are delicately designed and invite the viewer to dive into every nook and get lost in story of the form.

Josh Nozick is an American sculptor working primarily with wood. He was born in Amsterdam, the Netherlands in 1965 and currently resides in Millers, MD. Nozick's figurative sculptures are parametric interpretations of a single female form. Drawing on an extensive background in woodworking, he mixes traditional techniques with novel application of materials. Often constructed with a formal underlying grid structure, his pieces utilize various modes of embellishment, paint, veneers, etc. as well as multi-figure groupings to individuate all from their common ground.

His work evokes the idea of individuals as malleable variations of a UR form. It resonates with historical sculptural traditions such as the Chinese Terracotta Warrior and Greek kouros as well as contemporary ideas surrounding matters of "identity". Whether one attributes one's existence to a divine plan or to random rolls of cosmic dice, Nozick's oeuvre reminds us that the instantiated self is an unlikely miracle.

Spotlight on our Artist Derek Penix! ✨ Explore his incredible oil works online or in person at the gallery. We are open 10am-5pm everyday!

Derek Penix was born on December 29, 1980, in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Penix grew up watching members of his family paint and pursued painting himself right after graduating high school. After trying his hand at painting and selling his first piece he knew this was what he wanted to do for the rest of his life.

Over the years Penix's work has changed greatly and continues to evolve with each painting. "I never want to be stuck painting only one way or only one subject matter. Variety is what is exciting."

Penix has had the opportunity to work under Quang Ho and later with C.W. Mundy. "They have helped me as an artist immensely. I am so thankful that they have been willing to feed into my life as they have."

Penix has been recognized and won awards in almost 100 national competitions since 2010. As of 2021 ArtDataIntel collected data on artists around the country and their findings found that Derek, to date, is the most awarded artist in the country. Penix paints full time and also teaches art workshops around the country. He currently lives in Laguna Beach, California.

Gallerist and Artist Susan Eddings Pérez is known for her large-scale abstracts made primarily with plaster but on occasion Susan will go back to her Midwest roots and paint her cows, bulls, and horses.

"I want my animal paintings to feel like the subjects are sitting for a portrait" she says "Without a barn or a field in the background, it can work as well in a New York City loft as it does on a ranch in Colorado, Wyoming, Montana, or Texas." -Susan Eddings Pérez for Western Art & Architecture Magazine 2024.

Susan often takes commissions and can create custom pieces to elevate any collector's space. It’s not everyday you can work with an artist and an interior designer!
