Spring Festival at El Rancho de Las Golondrinas celebrates the traditions that shaped New Mexico's past and define us today.

See history come to life: traditional sheep shearing, weaving and dyeing demonstrations, children’s crafts, adobe brick making, Indigenous hoop and Hispanic folk dancing, Civil War infantry showcases and, whew, a bunch more. Food trucks are on site, with alcohol options from Tumbleroot Brewery and Distillery and New Mexico Hard Cider. Shops dozens and dozens of artisan vendors, too.

It's a big weekend, yall. All members FREE with a reservation.

BEE STUFF: One of our hives was not "queen right". Today, we installed a new liege to put that hive back in line.

A small cage containing this new queen was placed inside the hive. Over the course of a few days, with her pheromones penetrating through the frames, the bees will chew through a candy plug. This gradually releases her to her new kingdom, allowing the colony to become used to these new pheromones.

Once out, our Queen will go on a mating flight to fertilize her eggs and return to her new palace to fulfill her royal duty, strengthening the colony by laying up to 2000 (!!) eggs a day.

No one is silencing THIS lamb.

Every spring we hope to get some new babies from our churro sheep flock, and this little one was the first of 2026. By this time next year, the newbies will be almost as big as their parents with some heavy wool to trim, card, spin, dye, weave, and on and on. Y’all he is SO cute.

See live sheep shearing from the Rancho flock on June 13 & 14 at the Santa Fe Spring Festival! Plus: fawn over this little lamb.

As a staple food of the New Mexican diet, our traditional field would be incomplete without frijoles. Well adapted to our climate, soil and flood irrigation techniques, beans tend to be a well producing, low maintenance crop that were (and very much still are) a staple of Pueblo and Hispanic diets.

In the fall, after we harvest the dried beans from the traditional field, we package the majority up for sale in our Museum Store, but we're always sure to put enough aside to plant again next year.

We are officially ONE MONTH OUT from an El Rancho de Las Golondrinas tradition: the Santa Fe Spring Festival. June 13th & 14th, 10am-4pm.

As the season comes to an end, gather to celebrate the blossoming of New Mexico’s rich cultural heritage. See sheep shearing, using historic methods from centuries past, traditional weaving and dyeing demonstrations, along with multiple child-centered crafts tailored just for the kiddos.

Adults can explore artisan and food vendors, and take in an afternoon drink from Tumbleroot Brewery or New Mexico Hard Cider. See traditional Hispanic and Indigenous dances—that's just the start for this traditional family-friendly fest.
