✨ An award-winning work, and it's easy to see why.
"Clouds in the Canyon" by Brenda Howell (24x36, oil) captures one of those rare, breathtaking moments when clouds settle into the Grand Canyon at golden hour, the warm light catching every ancient ridge and shadow below.

This piece has earned some well-deserved recognition lately: a Merit Award in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society's International Spring Online Salon, a spot in the OPA Western Exhibition, and a Finalist selection in the Art Renewal Center International Salon.

Three major honors. One extraordinary painting. Currently available here at Santa Fe Trails Fine Art

New work by the talented Jimmy Dyer!
Jimmy’s colorful light-filled images deal with timeless subjects from around the globe. Dyer seeks to combine the light, color, and painterliness of plein-air painting with the solid drawing and tonal accuracy of more academic styles of painting. After earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Dallas, Dyer moved to Santa Fe, New Mexico where he came under the influence of some of the finest painters in America including Tom Lovell and Wayne Wolfe. There he learned the importance of painting directly from life outdoors as the basis of landscape painting, a practice he still adheres to today. Finding the artistic camaraderie and abundant subject matter stimulating, he lived and painted in the area for five years, capturing on canvas, light charged landscapes of New Mexico, Colorado, Wyoming, and Arizona. Finding it necessary to travel in order to maintain inspiration, he has since lived in Jackson Hole, Wyoming; Boston, Massachusetts; and Eliot, Maine. Having painted in Europe, Canada, the Caribbean, and South America as well as subjects from the Pacific to the Atlantic in the States, Dyer feels that this constant challenge of new subjects stretches his abilities as an artist and allows him to return to his favorite subjects with new knowledge and a fresh eye.

New work by Sally Maxwell | A Circle of Life | 24x18 | colored scratchboard

A native of Illinois, artist Sally Maxwell has been working with scratchboard for close to 53 years. Shown in galleries throughout the United States, her work is renowned by private and corporate collectors for its ability to capture the beauty and emotion of the wildlife and the natural world. Since childhood, Sally has found inspiration in animals and her own colorful garden; each piece is like a snapshot of the intensity that nature can possess in its quiet moments. Sally’s work tells stories and suggests relationships through subtle details such as the way two creatures lock eyes or snuggle next to each other. Sally has helped to define scratchboard as a fine art medium; using similar techniques to etching, or engraving, scratchboard originally was used for magazine illustration and for products in catalogs. Working with scratchboard allows Sally to layer up rich, deep colors and capture minute details, and her innovation and experimentation with new tools has given her the ability to produce a softer, less linear technique.

We have new arrivals from Cheri Cappello!

The connection and deep reverence that Cheri feels for our Native people began as a child. Cheri was born and raised on a large cattle and sheep ranch in the Colorado high country. Many hours were spent exploring the ancient encampments and burial grounds on the family’s ranch. She collected artifacts and arrowheads while working the ranch. Her respect and kinship grew through the years and were fueled with education and involvement with the Native people. At the same time Cheri learned the art of running trap lines and tanning and preparing skins and furs from her grandfather. Her early years also found her hunting, fishing and living the western ranch lifestyle. This taught her the value of nature, animal life and the bond that runs between man and the land. She learned the importance of balance between these two. It seemed only natural that Cheri would create art that would demonstrate her love for the Native Americans, the land, and a lost way of life. Each one of her pieces is a one-of-a-kind museum quality work. They are historically true to the 1800’s circa war shirts, wedding dresses, and child’s ceremonial works of art. These striking works are created by hand using elk and buckskin. They are painstakingly brought to life with fine beadwork and authentic adornments originally found on period pieces. The result is a powerful statement of our Native American culture. You can find Cheri’s work in public and private collections across the country and in Europe, Africa, and Australia. She is represented by many fine galleries, and has won numerous awards at prestigious national and international shows. Cheri currently owns and operates a ranch in the mountains of Colorado with her husband and children. Cheri’s artwork is her way of honoring and demonstrating her respect for our Native American heritage.

New collection of artwork by Jerry Ricketson. See this new piece titled “Solitude” 28x24 | oil and four more new paintings at the gallery.

Jerry Ricketson doesn’t get bogged down with details that are not essential, rather he paints only the shapes, colors and values necessary to make the viewer see what he sees. When done well, from a normal viewing distance, it will seem as if the viewer could actually walk into the painting. When viewed up close, the three-dimensional qualities of the piece seem to disappear and only brushstrokes of color and value will be seen, almost as if looking at an abstract painting. As one collector of his work commented, “Jerry gives you just enough”.

We are honored to welcome to the gallery, Clark Kelley Price.
Clark was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho in 1945. As a child he loved to draw. Even his earliest artistic efforts told stories. His parents Rex T. and Kathryn E. Price recognized his talent and encouraged him to use it. He received his formal education at Ricks College and Brigham Young University. His deep commitment to the Gospel, his love of the West(both modern and historical), and his life experiences have been his greatest resources in developing his talent. He spent his early years living in a log cabin his parents built in Montana. Surrounded by nature, Clark developed an appreciation for the land, as well as an ability to observe the kinds of details many overlook. He has been able to call upon many of his observations and experiences to create the art for which he has become known. The subject matter of his work ranges from religious to all things West.
