Makoto Egashira

Born in Mie Prefecture in 1986.
Graduated from the Sculpture Department of Musashino Art University in 2011.

He creates large-scale sculptural and installation works utilizing the floral-patterned blankets that were common in ordinary households during Japan's post-war economic boom. By juxtaposing the floral patterns with kitsch, his installations evoke intense visual impact, highlighting the Japanese obsession with and complex feelings towards Western culture. Using these elements, he aims to elevate Japanese objects' inherent value and cultural significance. One of his experiential works includes "Suit" (2017), where he photographs himself wearing a suit made of floral blankets.

In addition to exhibitions, he has participated in the music video for YUKI's "My Lovely Ghost" and the short film "Kaguya by Gucci" with artwork.

(b. 1989, Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Canada), featured in REVERIE:LOST IN A DAYDREAM, is an artist whose work explores the fluidity of identity through class, gender and the inferred understanding of material hierarchy. Rokas uses drawing, painting, ceramics and textiles to create a dreamlike world where sinister characters and beautiful objects shift effortlessly through dimensions, at once dangerous and playful. Her images are drawn from a personal mythology that is rooted in art history, pop culture and craft, mingling flat forms with highly rendered figures. Embroidered patches, both hand sewn and vintage, adorn her works, signaling group affiliations, personal preferences and evoking 90s childhood whimsy. Having been predominantly exposed to folk art while growing up, Rokas has a deep appreciation for handmade objects and a make-do sensibility to art making. A self taught textile artist, she melds utilitarian craft with her laborious technical fine art skills to retaliate against a culture that praises fast production and low quality over mindful expression.
Rokas received an MFA at the San Francisco Art Institute in 2016 where she was awarded the Graduate Fellowship, the Murphy and Cadogan Award, the Alan B Stone Painting Scholarship and the Anne Bremer Award.

Rokas has been exhibited internationally as well as extensively in the Bay Area including a recent solo presentation at 1599fdT Gallery in San Francisco as well as at CTRL-SHFT Gallery in Oakland, NIAD Center in Richmond CA, La Esquina in Kansas City, MO, the San Jose Institute of Contemporary Art, Jack Hanley Gallery in New York, FOFA Gallery in Montréal, the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art in Toronto and the National Gallery of Canada in Ottawa.  A three-time recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Grant, Rokas was also awarded an endowment from the Québec Council for the Arts, and was selected as a finalist in the 2017 Royal Bank of Canada painting competition. Born in Saint-Jean-Sur-Richelieu, Québec, Canada, she now lives and works in San Francisco where she is a studio member at Minnesota Street Projects.

Currently featured in REVERIE: LOST IN A DAYDREAM is (b. 1988, Echo Park, Los Angeles, California) who grew up in the local Glassell Park area and currently lives and works in Los Angeles. He has attended multiple institutions, including SFSU, SFAI, SFUAD, and CalArts. In 2017, Molina founded Dragon, a fine art gallery located in Cypress Park, which launched with his debut solo exhibition “Piles’ ‘. Molina has exhibited in a variety of group shows throughout the Los Angeles area, including “Multiple Multiple Multiple: A Print Show” art OOF Books and “the truth probably lies somewhere exactly in between‘’ at Dragon Gallery.

Molina’s aesthetic is indicative of upheaval, both personal and societal. Much of his work acts as a sort of unhinged rebellion, embracing the unconscious, animalistic soul. At a young age, Molina was exposed to traditional Mexican oilcloth patterns. These vibrant, ubiquitous designs left a remarkable impression, one that can still be observed as the artist continues to find solace in grease pencils that glide over vellum-like yupo paper. Working seamlessly between traditional media and digital processes, his work has been described as raw and brash, at times teetering between cartoonish and abstract. “The Kindly Ones”, a vivid horizontal composition in colored and grease pencil, epitomizes his style as its intense hues and fluid strokes coalesce to form vaguely reminiscent, animated figures that seem to vibrate across the surface.
