The museum features the Southwest's premier collection of meticulously restored historic aircraft - WWII to Vietnam Conflict eras War Eagles Air Museum features one of the largest collections of historic military and civilian aircraft, classic automobiles, and aviation and automotive artifacts in the Southwest. Many of the 36 World War II, Korean War and Vietnam-era aircraft on display are of grea

t historical significance. Inside the huge exhibit hanger (an enclosed area as big as a football field), you’ll take a trip back in time as you stroll among the professionally restored American, British, German and Soviet aircraft. We maintain many of them in flyable condition. If you’re lucky, you may see and hear an engine runup or a test flight. We also have 49 American, British, German, Japanese and Italian automobiles from days gone by, and several U.S. military vehicles, many of which are drivable. In addition to marveling at the beautiful condition and historical importance of the aircraft and automobiles on display, you can spend hours examining our hundreds of other artifacts—engines, instruments, weapons, photographs, documents, newspaper clippings, uniforms, scale models and more.

Meet the Corsair: The Corsair was designed and operated as a carrier-based aircraft. It entered service in large numbers in late 1944/early 1945 and quickly became one of the most capable carrier-based fighters of World War II. Some Japanese pilots regarded it as the most formidable American fighter of World War II, and its naval aviators achieved an 11:1 kill ratio.

The Navy accepted War Eagles’ F4U-4, BuNo 81698, on May 25, 1945. It saw combat in the Pacific with Fighter Squadron 10 (VF-10) on the USS Intrepid (CV-11) in the last months of World War II. From December 1946 until February 1948, it was a “pool” aircraft with U.S. Marine Fighter Squadron VMF-122. From August 1952 until December 1953, it flew with VF-92 on the USS Valley Forge in Korea with Carrier Air Group 5 (CAG-5), suffering light battle damage from small arms fire twice in early 1953. Decommissioned in October 1956 after 77 months of service and 2,069 flight hours, it had several owners before Museum founder John MacGuire bought it in April 1980.

War Eagles’ magnificent Corsair is one of the finest examples of the approximately 20 airworthy “Bent Wing Birds” that exist in the world today. Visit us to explore this aircraft up close and discover the machines that changed the course of history.
