Historic Doe Creek Schoolhouse

Historic Doe Creek Schoolhouse The Historic Doe Creek School, a One-Room School and Church, has been restored to its original grace and beauty. It is located at 35.469992, -88.247622

The Doe Creek School was built during the Reconstruction Era after the Civil War as a meeting place for a Baptist congregation. The building still contains many of the original, hand hewn, white popular logs which were snaked to the site by a team of oxen making it Tennessee's oldest existing original one-room log school.

Had a group of home schoolers today. Thanks to Shannon Loper for organizing the event.

2025 Year-End Review

We had visitors from out of State from Arizona, Virginia, Texas, Nevada, Illinois, Mississippi and Florida throughout this year. In Tennessee, visitors included people from Gallatin, Nashville, Memphis, Collierville, Gatlinburg, Clifton, Jackson, Dyersburg and Soddy-Daisy.

We received a grant from the Tennessee Museum Improvement Grant, where we improved our roof and added a blacktop parking lot, thanks go to Henderson County Mayor, Robbie McCready, State Representative Kirk Haston and City Employee David Austin for this.

We are still looking for the individual we heard has an original Doe Creek School student desk. The Tennessee Association of Museums highlighted and featured Doe Creek School Statewide on their publications and website.

We had another great event in October thanks everyone that participated.
