All six Coastal Heritage Society sites will be open on Labor Day, Monday, September 7th.

Highlights:
*a special Labor Day opening at Pin Point Heritage Museum from 10AM–2PM. Tours at 10:30AM, 11:30AM and 12:30PM.

*train rides on the hour from 10AM–3PM at Georgia State Railroad Museum

*American Revolutionary War cannon exhibit at Savannah History Museum, featuring recently restored cannons recovered from the Savannah River near Old Fort Jackson after spending about 240 years beneath the water.

Families can enjoy a day filled with STEAM activities, train rides, spellbinding fun, and plenty of hands-on adventures.

Daily cannon firings at Old Fort Jackson have returned to regular scheduling: 11AM and 2PM.

Please note that there currently are large numbers of mosquitoes at Old Fort Jackson. Small containers of bug spray and wipes are available for purchase in our gift shop, but it also is advised to bring extra bug spray to make your visit more comfortable. We also are working with Chatham County Mosquito Control. You also can call ahead to check on the fort conditions: (912) 232-3945. Thanks for your patience.

Old Fort Jackson offers daily family-friendly educational programming focusing on the lives of soldiers once stationed at Fort Jackson and its 18th-century predecessor, Mud Fort!

Coastal Heritage Society historical Interpreters lead interactive programs on weaponry, wartime communications, military medicine, and more, while dressed as soldiers from different units present on-site over the 250 years of its history.

Thanks WSB-TV for this coverage of our Savannah History Museum exhibit featuring 17 Revolutionary War-era cannons recovered from the Savannah River just off the shores of Old Fort Jackson.

Loyalists & Liberty: Savannah in the American Revolution is now on display at Savannah History Museum, open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

“This is a once-in-a-career find. I’m so grateful that I’m in this role when these were discovered,” Rachel Black, state archaeologist for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources Parks and Historic Sites division in Henry County, says in the news segment.

Cool off from Savannah’s extreme summer heat with a visit to Savannah History Museum!

Step inside and discover our exhibit featuring newly restored American Revolutionary War cannons recovered from the Savannah River near Old Fort Jackson. These historic cannons spent nearly 250 years beneath the river before being carefully restored.

Come see a piece of Savannah’s Revolutionary War history while enjoying a break from the heat.

Savannah History Museum is open daily, 9AM–4PM.

Please note: Due to forecasted extreme heat, Old Fort Jackson’s
2 p.m. cannon firings are canceled starting Friday, August 14th until further notice as we monitor the weather.

Join us for cannon firings at 11 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. daily.
