Not only does Ms. April have the most famous smile at Leopold's Ice Cream but she is also one of our beloved program guides. Ms. April has guided SCCPSS students throughout downtown Savannah sharing her love of history in our city.

We love this shout of from our own Massie Alumus, Stratton Leopold. ♡

Yesterday, we celebrated the 250th anniversary of Archibald Bulloch’s historic reading of the Declaration of Independence in Savannah. Bulloch, President of Georgia’s Provincial Council, read the document publicly in Johnson Square to Savannah’s residents on August 10th, 1776. The event featured a dramatic reenactment of this most historic occasion. Massie Heritage Specialist and Education Chair of the Savannah US250 Commission, Tara Kelsey, planned the event and led the program.

We are searching for Massie alumni, former teachers, or anybody connected or related to them. We'd love to hear your stories, and are planning an alumni gathering this Fall. Massie opened in 1856 and remained an iconic elementary school in Savannah until its closure in 1974. If you have old pictures related to Massie or SCCPSS, please share them with us. In addition to our role as a museum, we are also a repository of old SCCPSS historical records, and we love old pictures. We'd like to thank WJCL for helping us get the word out.

Did you attend the Massie Heritage Center? Staff are looking for former students, teachers and families to share their stories as they prepare to celebrate 170 years. How to help —
