Coastal Rail Buffs

Coastal Rail Buffs Coastal Rail Buffs, is a model railroad club where membership is open to the general public. Weekly meetings are every Thursday of the month at 6:30pm

This organization is dedicated to providing education to the general public in all areas of model railroading. This is a broad area that embraces the preservation of historic and modern day railroading through prototypical accurate miniatures. Beyond this the organization attempts to preserve artifacts, memorabilia, and other items that link Savannah's railroad heritage to present day railroading.

The Coastal Rail Buffs, Inc. is also part of the worldwide organization of the National Model Railroad Association with a membership of over 24,000. We also have membership in the Southeastern Region of the NMRA. activities include model and prototype railroading discussions, railroad movies, video and slide shows, lectures, demonstrations, model building projects, public shows, and open houses to help educate the public. The club now has in operation an 14 x 44 foot HO layout, and an 8 x 12 foot N layout which is open to the public 7 days a week at the Historic Railroad Shops, the Official State of Georgia Railroad Museum.

Ohio Southern Autoracks.

These are custom run Home Shops/Intermountain HO scale autoracks with those wonderful see through side panels. :) I bought a pair to mix in.

They are just out of the box and still have the tape on the end doors. I was testing these during a recent session at Ed's.

Ohio Southern was a freelance HO scale layout created by MR editor Jim Hediger. Over 700 articles were written about this railroad from 1979 to 2018, when it was taken down.

It's Workbench Wednesday.

Its pretty easy. Just post a pic of something you have on the workbench or layout. Or something you recently acquired.

It needs to be a model. Any scale. Any level of completion. And it needs to be your pic. Don't use someone else's stuff. Don't post manufacturer pics of something you want.

Easy peasy? We are primarily a model group so this should be fun. :)

Upcoming events this week.

- Regular Thursday club meeting will be at the Steam Center at the Roundhouse

- This is a regular business meeting.
= an agenda item is to adopt an HO scale T-Trak standard.

- As always, we will try to keep this part short.

- This _IS_ open to the public. All are welcome.

- Once again, the kids will be setting up a quick layout featuring HO scale Kato track. This is being a proof of concept for running T-Trak on a regular basis in the Steam Center.

- Bring a model to show off...or something.

A simple trackside "industry" you could create with just a siding and a little space.

I came upon this randomly, so I don't have any info. It looks like this large transformer was shipped by rail to this location for transload to a semi for the last mile delivery. Nothing near here would warrant something this large.

Large front loaders, cranes and other vehicles are available in all scales. You need a depressed center flatcar and a large load. It could be a transformer, but, also a large tank, or fracking column, or generator or turbine, etc. Just something big enough to need heavy duty handling.

Bonus if the siding is also long enough for that other building. A two for one deal. :)

This is on the CSX line between Savannah and Columbia just south of Fairfax, SC.

Upcoming events this week.

- Regular Thursday club meeting will be at Ed's place in Port Wentworth

- This is not open to the public.

- Why not? Because its a club member's personal space. You don't normally invite strangers into your space, but, you can become a club member and now you aren't a stranger. ;) We will be back at the roundhouse next week.

- Bring a model to show off...or something. Ed's layout is HO scale DCC. But, you can always show off anything. :)

We had a great turnout tonight. 23 people :)

Trains were run. It was awesome.

Lance showed a prototype HO scale T-Trak module. We are going to keep moving forward with adding this to the club.
