Hi! 👋 We are having a Gallery Talk from 3-4pm tomorrow 4/14 for “Flashes of Light: Cycles of Life viewed through The Maslow Collection,” featuring Dr. Heather Fiedler, Marywood University Psychology Department - and light refreshments - hope to see you there! 🙌

Curated by: Arts Administration students Ana Fiedler and Deborah Nunnally

On view through May 22

~With works ranging from gesturally abstract to hyper-realistic, “Flashes of Light: Cycles of Life viewed through The Maslow Collection” aims to supply the viewer with a look at life from birth to death. The exhibition takes into consideration the renowned psychologist Abraham Maslow’s seminal “Hierarchy of Needs” theory, which traces stages of life as they relate to ‘Physiological Needs, Safety and Security, Love and Belonging, Self Esteem, and Self Actualization.’ By connecting Maslow’s Hierarchy and his impact on the study of human development to work from The Maslow Collection, various psychological interpretations of each artwork become possible.

Featured Artists: Jennifer Bartlett, Lousia Chase, Y.J. Cho, Robert Cu***ng, Jack Goldstein, Nancy Hayes, Karla Knight, Lois Lane, Will Mentor, Ellen Phelan

On view beginning this Saturday 2/8 are selected works from The Maslow Collection for the “Art History Teaching Exhibition” in the Maslow Study Gallery for Contemporary Art, in conjunction with the opening of Scholastic Art Awards in Mahady Gallery from 1-4pm 👍👍👍

Featured artists: Bernd and Hilla Becher, Evelyn Hofer, Barbara Kasten, Denny Moers, Robert Rauschenberg, Dan Rizzie, Kenneth Snelson

“Given the opportunity to bring together a selection of works from the Maslow Collection, and with two courses involving art and architecture - one generally Medieval, the other specifically Greek - I enjoyed the challenge of pulling work that might refer to, or start conversations about these topics with my students. With the help of Curator Ryan Ward, I found both direct and indirect references to structure - physical and compositional. Visitors can toy with the references to obscured artifact, improbable balance and the ongoing use of ancient architectural theme.” ~ Mark Webber, Art History Instructor and exhibition co-curator
