Ocean Beaches Glassblowing & Gallery

Ocean Beaches Glassblowing & Gallery The premier glassblowing studio of the Oregon coast! You can find us on the beautiful Oregon Coast. There are nearly 50 artists now represented!

Ocean Beaches Glassblowing was started as a small studio in 2005 by Bob and Vicki Meyer and has grown into full-scale gallery offering a wide range of colorful and interesting art work. The focus of the gallery has always been blown glass, along with a good representation of fused glass, stained glass, and torchwork. In addition, unique offerings from metal and wood artists, as well as painters of various styles can be found here.

We're still open as of today - still just Fri-Mon, and still no glassblowing demos. People, for the most part, are being good about wearing masks - and, those that are not, we wish you could understand that it's about everyone's health and not merely some political statement. We might be going to every day once we hit July - at least if there are no further outbreaks here! We hope all of you are staying healthy! Thanks for your continued interest!

We're finally open again!

As you know, Oregon is starting the re-opening process. Lincoln County has been approved for Phase 1 of the re-opening, but not yet for Phase 2. You may not realize this, but the number of Coronavirus cases in our county is still increasing, which is why we've been denied the Phase 2 status so far. This is also the reason that we've been slow with our own re-opening.

So, we'll be open as long as we can maintain the current standards for Phase 1, which include the maintaining of social distancing, and not exceeding a certain number of visitors (12, for us) in the store at one time. We also expect everyone visiting to be wearing a mask (unless the person is less than 2 years old or has specific health conditions). We will supply masks at no charge for visitors that didn't bring one.

A special word on masks: The vast majority of us have still not been tested for the virus. If you're not already aware, it's been shown that a person infected with the virus may never even have symptoms of it - yet can still pass it on to others. Also, we can't say that 6' of social distancing is adequate to prevent transmission, since recent studies that have shown a much greater possible spread of airborne virus from just a sneeze or cough. Lastly, wearing a mask is not about keeping you from becoming infected, it's about trying to keep the people around you from becoming infected. Any number of us may already be carriers and not know it. But it's one thing to have little concern about whether I get sick, and quite another to have little concern about whether the people around me do. Please, just show some consideration to those others and wear a mask in the store.

Lastly, there will be no glassblowing being done during store hours for now. We realize it's a main attraction for a lot of people, but there's just no way to ensure the Social Distancing requirements during it.

Thanks for your cooperation during this challenging time. And take care.

Bob & Vicki

Just an update to anyone wondering, we're going to be open again this Saturday, June 6th. From there, we plan on a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday schedule (for now), from 10am to 6pm. And please note that there will be no glassblowing to watch for now.

05/24/2020

As of today (5/24), we're still closed to general business, but are making appointments for visits. We're hoping to be ready to open again by June 1 or so, but there are still a few variables. At this point, our plan is to be open on Fri-Sat-Sun-Mon, and closed the rest of the week. I haven't been able to think of a way so far where watching the glassblowing could be compliant with social distancing guidelines, so I'll be blowing only on days the gallery is closed. I know that will not be welcome news for those of you that enjoy watching, but it's not the way I like to do it, either - it's just our reality for now.

We should also explain what kind of services we ARE offering. Our website is still active, on which we sell a number of our items. As some of you have suggested, I'll start working on getting more items on there.

We can usually get items ordered online out in a week or so, maybe a little longer if I need to make something - I am still blowing glass now and then.

If you live in the area or will be passing through, we can open up by appointment if you'd like to get something - just give us a day or two notice, please. You can leave a voicemail at 541-563-8632, email us through the website (www.oceanbeachesglass.com), or through our emails: "bob" or "vicki" at "oceanbeachesglass.com".

Just let us know if you have any other questions. Thanks.
