Today is my 12th anniversary in Seattle; as some of you already know, it will be my last. I’ve been angry and disillusioned with this city for over 2 years but the recent actions of , the city council, “chief” Carmen Best and her band of racist thugs, I will be closing the Porter Pop Up. I was on the fence for ::so:: long, even deciding that after the move I would come up once a month to continue this project that I started out of my little Capitol Hill apartment in, like, 2012.
I just can not.
Running a business is expensive and I just can not in good conscience pay business taxes to a city that I unequivocally disagree with. I don’t want my money (and by extension, the money of the artists I work with, many BIPOC) contributing to the erasure and violent harm of my community. My DMs will remain open as a resource for emerging artists, I genuinely believe in you all and feel the world needs more art. I may have to charge a modest consulting fee, but feel that those of you who have worked w me in the past know I’m not a price-gouger and my rates are well below average. If you are a BIPOC artist, I would be honored to offer resources gratis.
I thank all of you for your support over the years! We had a good run and working with and meeting all of you will be the bright spot on my time here.
In conclusion: and motherf**kers
