Dear followers,
Unfortunately the Alki Point Lighthouse and its grounds will not be open to the public during 2026. The Coast Guard needs time to do some remediation work on the structure. Meanwhile we'll try to post content here that might be of interest. If you need to reach us, please do so by email: [email protected]
We are happy to send out a stamp for your United States Lighthouse Society "passport." Please email us your request and include your mailing address. No fees or SASE are required.

We have some very unfortunate news to share. The Alki Point Lighthouse will not be open for tours for the rest of this summer and we are not sure when it will reopen.

Recent testing has revealed a higher level of lead in the lighthouse structure (from old paint) than was previously found. The Coast Guard, out of an abundance of caution, will not allow public access to the site until the lead level can be significantly reduced.

We are hopeful that a remediation plan and funding will come through and that the lighthouse will again be able to welcome visitors at some point, although we do not have a timeline yet.

Our tour team is hoping to develop some educational content to share here on our page.

We're offering free public tours of Alki Point Lighthouse today! No reservations necessary! Just arrive at the gate outside the lighthouse grounds between 1 p.m. and 3:45 p.m. Street address: 3201 Alki Ave SW, Seattle, WA 98116.

We recommend you consider arriving after 2 as we often get a mid-afternoon lull and the lighthouse is a lot less crowded once that 1-2 p.m. rush is over.

Just a reminder - pets are not allowed on the lighthouse property.

Another reminder - the streets leading to the lighthouse are not actually closed. They are "local access only." The City of Seattle has confirmed that visitors to the lighthouse are considered local access. And there is free parking in the small parking lot outside our gate and on the street near the lighthouse. See you soon!

Good morning friends of Alki Point Lighthouse !

From time to time we are asked by drone operators if it's o.k. to fly their drones over the lighthouse property. Here's the answer:

We used one of the FAA-recommended drone operator apps (AutoPylot) to see if the Alki Point Lighthouse property is a no-fly zone for drones and the property is designated as:

Do Not Fly - Warning: flight restricted air space.

It says:

"National Security Warning: Your mission overlaps USCG District Thirteen Flag Quarters Alki Beach, and no person may operate a small unmanned aircraft in restricted airspace unless that person has permission from the appropriate authority.
Individuals violating any of these restrictions may be subject to FAA and/or law enforcement action.

The POC for this airspace is:
USCG 2703 Martin Luther King Jr Avenue SE
Washington DC 20593-7202.
Staff Symbol: DCMS-34.
Phone: 202-372-2100.
Email: [email protected]

So if you want to pursue getting permission to fly your drone over this space, feel free to do so using the above contact information.

Hope this helps!

Some of our visitors are interested in how Alki Point and the Alki neighborhood of Seattle got its name. This website gives some background on the origins of the word from the "Chinook Wawa" trade language that was used between native groups and between natives and non-natives in the era when British and American settlers began to come to the Pacific Northwest.

ALKI [AHL-kee] (historical) or [al-KAI] (modern) — adverb. Meaning: Eventually; someday; in the future; times to come; presently; directly; later; in a little while; after a while; shortly; will; shall; Origin: Chinook alkekh > From a Chinookan particle álqi 'will be', ‘later on’
