The WMF’s STEM Youth Paleontology Camp return students were excited to discover tusk flakes. Return student are only allowed to excavate in areas not designated as the WA State Wenas Creek Mammoth Dig Site and in already disturbed soil. These students discovered tusk flakes in a ravine where dirt was moved while building a driveway in 2004, before the mammoth humerus bone was discover by Gary Fife.

The Fresh Hop Ale Festival has been very supportive of the Wenas Mammoth Foundation mission through community grants that focused on science and art programs in Yakima County. The community grants are funded from the proceeds of the Fresh Hop Ale Festival. The Fresh Hop Ale Festival is looking for volunteers to help with their second-shift roles from 6:00–10:00 PM on Saturday, October 4 at State Fair Park. These evening positions are vital to keeping the festival running smoothly by supporting beverage stations, guest services, and end-of-night operations.

If the WMF provides 10 or more volunteers for the second shift, the Fresh Hop Group will award our organization a $50 grant per volunteer. That means a group of 12 could earn $600 in support for your cause by helping out for one shift!

By volunteering, you’re not only ensuring a great festival experience—you’re also helping guarantee that there will be strong support for the upcoming community grant cycle. You can sign up at the link below; be sure to enter the Wenas Mammoth Foundation's name as the group that you are with. This helps them to ensure that they get the correct volunteer count for our grant.

If you’re available, please send an email to Joe Briscoe [email protected] and he’ll share the shift details, training info, and assignment options.

Thank you for lending your time and energy to make this year’s event a success!
