Most of us learned the Declaration of Independence as a list of grievances and a famous signature. But what did it actually mean for the people living in the American South, and what does it still mean for us here in Georgia?

Join the Senoia Area Historical Society on Thursday, September 10, when Professor Nicole Williams offers a fresh look at the document that started it all and its lasting impact on the region we call home.

Dr. Williams brings an unusual perspective to the subject. She holds a PhD in History from the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow, Scotland, along with master's degrees in Public Policy and Management and in Political Communication from the University of Glasgow, and she earned her BA at Tulane University in New Orleans. She has served on staff in the British House of Commons and with city councils in Richmond, Virginia and New Orleans. A Georgia native and 13th generation American, she currently teaches history as adjunct faculty at Clayton State University.

Doors open at 6:30 PM for light refreshments and conversation. The program begins at 7:00 PM.

Admission is free for SAHS members. Guests are asked to donate $5 per person.

We hope to see you there.

🎶 Before the music starts, meet the porches.

Senoia PorchFest returns this Sunday, September 6, at 3:00 PM, with 41 bands playing on front porches all across our historic district. Those porches have been standing for a century or more, and every one of them has a story.

Take the Historic Senoia Audio Walking Tour first and you will hear who built these homes, who lived in them, and what Senoia looked like long before a single amplifier showed up on a front step. Then when the music starts, you will know exactly whose porch you are standing in front of.

The tour is a GPS-guided app you take at your own pace, on your own schedule, for $6.99. Walk it Saturday, walk it Sunday morning, walk it whenever suits you.

Comfortable shoes either way. You are going to need them.

Download the tour at www.SenoiaHistory.com. And come see us at the museum, 6 Couch Street, open Saturday and Sunday from 1:00 to 4:00 PM.

We are sad to report the passing of our longtime friend, tour guide and supporter, Ralph Arnold. Here's Ralph a few years ago, sharing his love for Senoia history with everyone. We send our sympathies to his wife Jane Hutchinson Arnold, their families and friends. We will miss the sweet twinkle in Ralph's eyes and thank him for his all many years of support.
