Community Invited to Groundbreaking Celebration for #4 Locomotive — October 26
Port Angeles, WA — The long-awaited groundbreaking for the next phase of the #4 Locomotive
Project is set for Sunday, October 26, 2025, at 2:00 PM — and the community is invited to join
the celebration!
The event will take place at the site where Locomotive #4 is on display, at the corner of East
Lauridsen Boulevard and South Chase Street, directly across from the Port Angeles Library
(2210 S. Peabody Street).
The groundbreaking will include a short program sharing the story of the project, a look at the
future plans, and a few words from the project team and local partners. After the program, guests
will witness the ceremonial groundbreaking, marking the official start of construction.
“We’re thrilled to finally reach this milestone,” said Project Manager Steve Zenovic. “Within days
of the groundbreaking, crews will begin work on the foundations for the new shelter — and the
steel frame’s pieces are already built and ready to go. We’re aiming to have the frame up around
Thanksgiving.”
Visitors will also find informational displays and graphics showing what’s coming next and team
members will be on hand to answer questions.
A special treat will be the appearance of a working miniature steam locomotive — a small-scale
version of Rayonier’s #70, (pictured below) which once ran on the company’s rail line. The engine will be steamed up and running along a short stretch of track during the event.
The groundbreaking marks the beginning of the construction phase, with visible progress expected soon after the event.
