As an internationally renowned watercolor artist, Linda Roberts has spanned the globe painting scenes and subject matter that inspires lovers of fine art and collectors worldwide. Linda’s command of the watercolor medium is evident in her masterful portrayal of majestic vistas, the subtle rendering of a still life and in glimpses of every day life encountered in her frequent travels abroad and thr
oughout the United States. She conveys these vivid impressions simply, using transparent colors, softened textures, and finite detail. Critically acclaimed early in her career as a painter of winter snow scenes and skiing, she is equally at ease painting a tranquil seascape, a crisp New England town, a bouquet of daisies, or a hillside Tuscan enclave. With countless commissions to her credit, she now enjoys the luxury of studying any subject that strikes her whimsy. Such examples include the series of the “Family Sole” commissioned portraits and any one of the countless custom paintings she has completed over the years. Born and raised in the suburbs of Washington D.C., Linda graduated from the University of Maryland, majoring in fine art. She began painting in watercolor in 1975 and immediately began receiving accolades for her precise skill. She quickly accumulated a long list of commissions including: The Limited, Marriott Corporation, Ski Magazine, Winter Park Resort, Aspen Ski Company, Snowmass Resort Association, Vail Associates, Grand Marnier, U.S. Ski Team, Audi, Continental Airlines, Vail Valley Foundation, Steamboat Resorts, Ernst & Young and Dow Chemical. Complimenting her growing acclaim, Linda has received recognition from the world of golf and tennis. Linda was commissioned to create original watercolors for two Jerry Ford Golf Tournaments in Vail, Colorado. The colorful limited edition prints were all signed by President Ford and the artist; a second limited edition golf print has been released entitled “Par Excellence.” Other related works include a depiction of the U.S. Open tennis tournament of which the image
has been reproduced as a poster. Recognized as the nations preeminent skiing artist, in 1989 and 1999 Linda was chosen to depict the World Alpine Ski Championship in Vail, Colorado as well as Vail’s 40th Anniversary poster for the 2002-2003 season. Ski & Snowboard Team has also commissioned her to create original watercolors of gold medal skiers Picabo Street and Jonny Moseley. Each painting has also been reproduced into a limited edition with each print signed by the Olympic champions! Linda currently works and lives with her husband, Michael, in a unique home called “Food Plenty Farm” that was built in 1808. Her studio is in the home, as is the frame shop where Mike does all the framing. Linda is a member of the National Art Museum of Sport, the Baltimore Watercolor Society and the Art League of Marco Island.
“For the skier or nature lover, a day outdoors or on the mountain can be a peak experience few others can equal. The tranquillity and oneness with nature are some of life’s most treasured times. My hope is that my paintings inspire memories of those diamond days and encourage dreams and visions of those to come! Painting is a time of great relaxation and fulfillment for me. I am continually intrigued and excited by that piece of stark, white paper, knowing I can transform it into an image of my choosing. The evolvement of the idea from my experience and imagination is a fulfilling experience. The knowledge that others appreciate or enjoy my results merely complements the achievement. It makes me very happy!”
