A teaser for your weekend 💫 These glass artworks are but a few to be unveiled at our exhibition opening next week. Come out on Thursday, September 10th, 6-8 pm to experience Presence, a glass-centric show featuring the works of four master artists.

Presence is ultimately an exploration of balance: between stillness and movement, attention and distraction, fragility and strength. Artists Margot Dermody, Eric Hernandez, Chris Ross, and Leo Fine create space to pause and reconnect with the immediacy of experience. In doing so, we are reminded that meaning is often found not in striving toward the next destination, but in fully inhabiting the moment we are already in.

SAVE THE DATE! Everyone's been asking when our next exhibition at our second location will be -- well, here we are! Save the date for This Moment Without Time, an exhibition featuring artworks by local painter, Nicole Renee Ryan, and local ceramicist, Isabella Maroon.

Who we are and what we value are heavily shaped by the places we inhabit, the experiences we carry, and the connections we form. As time passes, moments begin to blur, and what we believe to be true can become uncertain: Did that conversation really happen? Did I really see that place? In recalling the past, we unconsciously reconstruct it, filling in foggy gaps and altering details until memory becomes something between recollection and invention. A single place, memory, or lifetime can expand into infinite possibilities. In this space between what happened and what we remember, perception becomes fluid, time becomes irrelevant, and place becomes imagined.

Nicole Renee Ryan’s landscape paintings of misremembered places, alongside Isabella Maroon’s fragmented and reassembled ceramics, inhabit this dissonant space between familiarity and uncertainty. Through careful processes of making and reimagining, both artists transform fragments of experience into environments that feel at once remembered and invented. They create a world that feels strangely familiar -- one that asks us to consider how we remember, what we forget, and how much of what we know is shaped by what we imagine.

We hope to see you there!

Local Pittsburgh artist, Margot Dermody, is eager to share her new works with you at our upcoming exhibition! “Presence” is all about pausing, paying attention, and moving with intention, an art-making methodology Margot literally puts into practice with each piece. Regardless of her medium, each work is a sculptural representation of peace and tranquility.

Continue watching her 12 minute interview with Mark on our website, under the exhibition “Presence” 🤍

ICYMI Mark Rengers Gallery has a NEW artist! Welcome Laura Flynn Geissel, a fine artist based in Alexandria, Virginia. Geissel creates award-winning contemporary landscape and still life paintings. She is a self taught artist, following the methods and approaches of old-world painters. Along with visually learning from the masters, Geissel values the process and natural ingredients of antiquated paints, thus choosing to create her own oil paints from pigment powders. It's absolutely amazing! 🌷

Geissel's recent body of work is inspired by the delicate and ephemeral form of flowers. Sourced from her own home's gardens, the flower is her metaphor for the primordial life force – eternal and present in every moment. She uses fresh, immediate brush strokes to portray a truth that lies somewhere between realism and abstraction. Photos don't do these colors justice!

To learn more about Laura and her floral works, head to our "artists" page on our website. Plus, to be the first to know about future NEW things, be sure to subscribe to our newsletter!

Wise words from Leo Fine — glass not only distorts how the viewer is viewing it only the object, but how that object is distorting the space around it. That then gives that object a very unique “presence.” Learn more about our upcoming exhibition and watch Leo and Chris in action on our website!
