Hoċokata Ṫi - Cultural Center and Public Exhibit Learn more about Dakota culture in our public exhibit, “Mdewakanton: Dwellers of Spirit Lake”. Owned and operated by the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.

Hoċokata Ṫi is the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community’s (SMSC) cultural center and gathering space that will be used to interpret and encourage traditional Mdewakanton Dakota cultural heritage, language, and history by sustaining this inherent knowledge for SMSC Members through exhibitions, preservation, and education.

"Hello, my relatives! A few weeks ago, the people gathered, and we spoke in our Dakota language. We were very happy for this to happen. This year, there were 51 teams that attended. We were so surprised and thankful! When we speak Dakota, we strengthen ourselves. When we speak Dakota, we all are winners. To everyone that came, we thank you very much."

Young Native Pride’s focus is to engage Community Youth in Native American traditions, values, and stories and empower them to share their culture through the art of song and dance.
