Arts Trek at MGMoA

Arts Trek at MGMoA This event takes place at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, Shawnee, OK. Due to the success of the first festival, it became an annual event.

An innovative, exciting cultural experience, Arts Trek combines an arts festival with a performance showcase. Anchored at the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art, this free, family-friendly event is an arts adventure for everyone!. During the festival, local artists and crafters display, demonstrate, and sell their artworks. Visitors engage in free hands-on art activities (including a collaborative communi

ty artwork) sponsored by local organizations and businesses. A variety of featured performers, bands, dancers entertain visitors in the theater, in the gallery, in the courtyard, and on an outdoor stage. Food vendors offer a variety of appetizing treats and Oklahoma wineries present tastings of area wines. Arts Trek began in 2010 as a collaboration between the Mabee-Gerrer Museum of Art and several community organizations. Arts Trek is intended to promote the arts in Shawnee and Oklahoma; to provide an educational, entertaining activity for adults, students, and families; and to encourage community collaboration. Annually, an estimated 3,000-4,000 people attended Arts Trek. This event is not a fundraiser for the museum.

We have another Arts Trek artist for you today, Mireille Damicone!

✨✨✨🖼🖼🖼🎨🎨🎨👏👏👏

Mireille’s art is broad in her choice of mediums ranging from painting in acrylics and oils to working with metals and now the ancient painting with egg tempura. In the fine art of jewelry and metals her feminine and geometric designs bring simple but elegance in the craft of metal work. Each hand-crafted piece of jewelry is made with 99% fine silver. In jewelry I use geometric shapes and interesting natural designs. Mireille states "My jewelry are like mini - sculptures with the use of semi-precious stones." Her jewelry can be worn with an everyday wardrobe or can be dressed up for special occasions. Ten percent of all my proceeds are donated to missions.

Mireille Damicone is formally educated with a BA from Smith College MA and a semester abroad from Trinity College CT, Rome Italy. She received a Masters in Art Education from Oklahoma State University and qualified for her National Board Certification in 2006. Her art has been displayed and acquired throughout Oklahoma and Massachusetts.

If you would like to reach out to the artists you can can reach her at [email protected] or fineartamerica.com.

Our next Arts Trek Artist is Sarah Russell Morphew of SER Morphew Studios! Below is her artist statement:

Sarah Russell Morphew is a native Texan who has been living in Oklahoma for 17 years. She has always found beauty and inspiration in anything and everything. Clouds and sunsets were her first love, but her interests have continually expanded over the years to the point that she can get excited over rocks, wood grain, tree bark, pine cones, and even dead grass! She enjoys painting landscapes, sunsets, acrylic pours, abstracts, and still life, but her obsession usually comes back around to flowers. Sarah primarily works with oil, acrylic, and graphite, and sometimes charcoal, pastels, and alcohol ink. She loves to try new things!

Sarah is a member several regional art associations and has exhibited her work at the Paseo Arts Festival, the Porcelain Art Museum, and several Oklahoma libraries and private businesses. She has also done art demonstrations at the Oklahoma State Fair.

When she's not painting, she enjoys thinking, writing, organizing, spending time with her family, going to art festivals and museums, and taking reference photos for her next painting idea.

Here we have another Arts Trek Artist, Debra Christian, of Christian Mosaics! Debra states "After years of looking at pictures of mosaics about 15 years ago I decided to try it. The moment I began creating a mosaic I knew this was my artistic outlet. I have created a wide variety of mosaics and by looking back at my work it appears that my love of flowers shows in my mosaic work." Debra Christian has also taught Mosaics for the MGMoA's student art programs for ages 5-18.

Angela True is our next Arts Trek Artist! Angela True states, "I have always loved to draw. The ease and availability of pencils and paper ultimately led to my love of creating art with colored pencil. Expressed in a representational manner, my subject matter includes surprisingly everyday objects. Because of this familiarity, the viewer often feels a personal connection to the imagery in my compositions."
