Museum piece Monday. The Ebro Depot is one of the historic buildings in our collection. It is considered a “portable” depot, meaning it could be loaded on a flat car and transported to another location if necessary. We do not have a construction date for the building, but it was used until the late 1950’s -early 1960’s. It was located along the Great Northern Line. After it closed it was moved to Stinar’s Nursery where it became a storage building. It was donated to the History Center by Leonard and Kathy Stinar. Restoration was funded by William Murray and his family, formerly of Ebro.
Many recall the depot being white, which was a color that GN went to in the 1950s. Often with green trim. Before the 1950s the depots were light gray with dark gray trim, from 1900s to the 1930s they were a mineral red color. When we did a cross section of siding, we found the earliest layer to be a red color, so we used that as our guide.
