Shohola Railroad & Historical Society Shohola Caboose Museum Members are encouraged to bring memorabilia for display and discussion, which coincide with evening’s program.

The Shohola Railroad and Historical Society, popularly know as “The Caboose Group” was formed March 19, 1991 for the specific purpose of preserving and maintaining the Shohola Caboose. When the group’s constitution was completed in October of that year, its goal had been expanded to include the preservation of local history and railroad history, especially as it relates to the Shohola area. The Sh

ohola Railroad and Historical Society meetings are held on the first Wednesday of each month at seven o’clock PM in the Shohola Township Municipal Building, 159 Twin Lakes Road. The free program is held before the meetings begin. The public and new members are always welcome to attend. Shohola Railroad and Historical Society and Author David Pierce would like to invite you to attend our presentation on Wednesday, May 6 at 7 PM. We will be meeting at the Shohola Township Municipal Building located at 159 Twin Lakes Road in Shohola, PA.
We will be holding a discussion about the ill-fated Tocks island Dam.
Thousands lost their homes, farms, camps, and businesses to forced government acquisition, but mass opposition defeated the dam and resulted in today’s Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area.
Please join us for a free presentation based on the authors book…
“Damned If You Do”. Refreshments following. You are also invited to attend our “Caboose Group” meeting after the program.

The Shohola Recreation Committee in conjunction with Shohola Railroad and Historical Society is holding their annual Christmas event workshop at the Shohola Municipal Building located at 159 Twin Lakes Road(not the Caboose), December 6 from 12 to 3 pm. All Shohola Area children are invited to participate in crafts and other activities. Snacks for all the children. Santa will arrive by Firetruck around 1 pm. He will listen to the children’s Christmas wishes. Bring your camera.

The Shohola Railroad and Historical Society will present”A look back in Time. Shohola 1880’s to 1950 “ at the November 5th meeting at 7 pm in The Twnsp. Building at 159 Twin Lakes Road. The program will be presented by Linda Harding Buchmann, lifelong resident of the area. Her topics will include early bridges, school houses, logging, Glen attractions and more. This event is free including refreshments. Bring a friend and take a step back into the areas history. You may find some surprises.

The Shohola Railroad and Historical Society will be meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 6 at the Shohola Twp. Bldg.located at 159 Twin Lakes Road. This month’s presentation is a group of former students speaking about attending the Smith-Nelson School during the early 1950’s. Join them for a look back in time, followed by refreshments. Cats Meow Smith-Nelson schoolhouse replicas will be available.

Ed Nikles, Jr. of Nikles Custom Builders in Milford will bring his collection of Apothecary Bottles from Pike County to the next Shohola Railroad and Historical Society meeting. If you attended Ed's two previous presentations, you know how interesting they were. This discussion and display of Pharmacy, or Apothecary bottles, sold in the area is bound to be just as entertaining! If you grew up in Pike County perhaps seeing some of these bottles will bring back memories of a bygone time! Do you remember Stripple's Drug store? If you didn't grow up here, come and learn about our history and where Stripple's was located! All interested persons are encouraged to attend this program on Wed. Sept 1st at 7p.m. at the Shohola Municipal Building, 159 Twin Lakes Rd. for this unique display and talk. Join us for refreshments afterwards.

Ed Nikles Jr. of Nikles Custom Builders in Milford will bring his collection of milk bottles from Pike County to the next Shohola Railroad and Historical Society meeting. These bottles are only a portion of his vast collection of glass. Dairy farms were a large part of the history of our area. If you didn't grow up here, this historical presentation is sure to be enlightening. If you did grow up in Pike County perhaps seeing some of these bottles and the brands they sported will bring back memories of a bygone era! Pike County milk was distributed all over this county as well as nearby Orange, Sullivan and Sussex counties. All interested persons are encouraged to join the SRHS on April 7th at 7p.m. at the Shohola Municipal Building, 159 Twin Lakes Rd. for this unique display and talk. Join us for refreshments. Business meeting will follow.
