On this day in Sioux City history: Just over a week after arriving in Sioux City, Hyman Rabinowitz was elected as the first rabbi of Shaare Zion congregation on June 2, 1925. Within two years $100,000 was raised for a synagogue on Douglas and 16th Street opening in 1927.
