Big news and updates for Exposure!
After months of back and forth, I've made the decision to close Exposure's physical location at 401 Phillips Avenue at the end of the month. It wasn't an easy choice to make; all the amazing shows we've hosted, our collaborations with our BFFs at JAM Art & Supplies, not to mention the recent arrival of our new neighbors Jones421 and the Levitt Shell Sioux Falls - I LOVE our space and couldn't ask for a better situation or location.
But after four years, I’m ready for Exposure to change into something new. Art advocacy, city government, urban design, and community projects have become the focus of my career over the past year or so. If I want to follow those passions and grow them into a career, I needed to ‘trim down’ some of my other commitments. Running the gallery, organizing art shows, and being a landlord was just taking up too much of my time and energy.
Bonus: Molly and I are also expecting our first child literally any day now. So making sure that I can be present and focused on both of their needs these next few months is incredibly important to me (I also have no idea how babies work so the less distractions the better).
Okay, the ‘Good News’ part of all this: We aren’t going away! Although we won’t be hosting monthly art shows, we’ll continue to put on cool events like Art Maze, ARTmart and others throughout the year. In fact, you can catch us in August at Downtown Riverfest for another collaborative art project and we’re in the beginning stages of something exciting in the fall (stay tuned). So while we may not have a brick and mortar space anymore, we’ll still be active in the community.
I’m so excited for the next chapter of Exposure and can’t wait to get started. But for now, I’m going to take the summer off and enjoy some much needed time off with my wife and new baby.
Thank you all for your support of our little gallery these past four years and we'll see you soon!
