Introducing: Reviews by Norse Art Space

We’re expanding how we engage with contemporary art.

Alongside our exhibitions and catalogs, we’ll now be publishing written reviews—thoughtful reflections on artists and exhibitions shaping the region and beyond.

Our first review features the work of Marty Two Bulls Jr. , currently on view at the Washington Pavilion. The exhibition brings together printmaking, sculpture, and installation to explore themes of extraction, identity, and cultural memory.

This is part of a larger effort to build critical dialogue around contemporary art in South Dakota—something we believe is essential to growing a deeper, more informed collector and artist community.

Artist Spotlight — Keith BraveHeart .braveheart
Contemporary stories rooted in Lakota visual tradition.

Keith BraveHeart’s work carries forward the teachings, memories, and responsibilities of his Oglala Lakota heritage—approaching painting not as “art,” but as a way of being. His practice embraces intuition, cultural knowledge, and the possibilities that emerge when process and chance converge.

This digital work titled “Dream Catchers” was included in this past Spring/Summer’s exhibition “Imprint.”

How to look at contemporary art (in 3 steps).

Start with what’s in front of you—materials, choices, presence. Then notice what happens in you.

Contemporary art isn’t about “getting it.”
It’s about slowing down enough to see how the work is built, why it exists in this form, and what makes you feel or question.

Save this for your next gallery visit.
