I have made crow friends! If they see me outside with Tucker, one or both will fly over to their tree (2nd pic) and wait to be treated. I was giving them raw cashews but then discovered suet nuggets, which they really enjoy. They also recognize my car driving home from work and swoop in as I hit the driveway. This morning there is a new development. Every time I see them I call out, "Hey crow(s)!" This morning, I saw no crows, heard no crows, so I called out, and one of them heard me from the next slough over. I watched them fly across our slough to their tree and did a little happy dance as I greeted and tossed out a few snacks. I have crow friends!!

My biggest hope is they are a couple and will bring bebe crows to see me. Fingers crossed!

Oh how she loves the red dot! I finally found sturdy, *rechargeable * lasers and the cat is obsessed. She comes to the table where the lasers are and reaches for them. Of course, she pulls everything else off as well...

Yesterday was the first time I almost didn't do my bird. I had drawn it earlier in the day and it wasn't until bedtime that I realized I hadn't actually painted it! So yesterday is Chestnut-backed Chickadee. I really wanted to get the chestnut in there Today's bird is the Cackling Goose.

The last three days of birds: Common Goldeneye, Common Yellowthroat, and California Gull. The Goldeneye has head feathers that shift from green to blue to purple depending on how the light hits them. Finding the right shade of yellow for the Yellowthroat led to me testing them all and combining a couple. But it made finding the right shade for the gull's beak easier.

Common Merganser, and I chose to paint the female because I love her fun spiky head. The male has a smooth black head. I love watching mergansers because they snorkel, putting their face in the water as they swim along, looking for fish. in really pleased with the serrations on the bill of this one.

Yesterday's bird, the Cedar Waxwing, didn't get posted because when I tried, Instagram distracted me. Today is the Common Raven.

I'm seeing differences in my work already, after 25 days. I feel I can control the watercolor better, in watercolor-y ways. My brush control is also improving, which pleases me.

Caspian Tern today! I love the way the back of their head is shaggy.

Today's bird is a bright-eyed Common Tern. Tomorrow's bird is also a Tern, so it will be fun showing the differences in the two.

Until I began painting them, I didn't realize how many of these birds have a lot of ack in them. I prefer mixing my own blacks, as they are more lively. My favorite is a mix of Alizarin Crimson and Veridian Green, sometimes with a little Indanthrone Blue in. I've been mixing a lot at once so I have it ready to go.

I painted the first C bird last night - Common Loon. The paint kinda got away from me. So it had to dry before any pictures could be had. Canada Goose is today's bird. Part of me wishes I had put Canada Goose and Cackling Goose across from each other so you could see the differences in them. But I just thought of it, so oh, well.

The chicks are not mine. They just arrived at my work -325 of them! My office is alive with the sounds of spring. I don't like that chicks get sent through the mail, but at least when they get to me, they get to be warm. I always turn up the heat for them.

Today is the last of the B birds. He is the Brown Creeper. While I have seen this bird before, I've only heard it at the house. I know where he is (in the little stand of trees next door), but can't see him because he's quite small and blends in with the tree bark!

Today's bird is the Black-headed Grosbeak. I took pains to make sure that beak was right! It was fun working with the orange, especially since everything's so grey around here just now. Only 3-4 weeks til The Greening, but for now it's grey.
