Main Street in Schleisingerville, now known as Slinger, looked much different in the early 1900s. Dirt roads, horse-drawn carriages and wooden storefronts lined the busy downtown street as the village continued to grow.

This remarkable photo captures a glimpse of everyday life in Schleisingerville, with businesses, homes and residents all helping shape the community we know today. Even more than a century later, parts of Main Street still carry echoes of this historic past.

Tonight is the Slinger High School’s annual “Slinger Area History and Culture Night!”

We will have displays showcasing some of our historic SHS sports artifacts along with information about the museum and our ongoing efforts to preserve our community’s history.

The museum is truly blessed to have such a strong relationship with Slinger High School. We encourage everyone to come out and see all the incredible hard work these students have done to help preserve and share local history and culture. Their passion and dedication are inspiring, and this event is a wonderful opportunity to support them and learn more about our community’s rich heritage.

We hope to see you there!

Then & Now: Main Intersection

This photo, taken circa 1915, captures Slinger’s main intersection at a much different time. The brick corner building was home to the Weinberger Department Store, a longtime centerpiece of downtown commerce. Horses and wagons can be seen tied up outside the Washington House, offering a glimpse into everyday life in early Slinger.

This Memorial Day, we invite you to step inside a powerful tribute honoring the men and women from our own community who answered the call to serve our country.

Our Memorial Day Exhibit is more than just a display — it is a deeply personal journey through the stories, uniforms, memories, and sacrifices of local Veterans from generations past. As you walk through the exhibit, you will come face to face with the realities of war, service, sacrifice, and the courage it took for these individuals to defend the freedoms we enjoy every day.

Every uniform tells a story. Every artifact represents a life of service. Every mannequin standing in this exhibit once belonged to someone’s father, mother, brother, sister, friend, or neighbor.

This exhibit was created to ensure these stories are never forgotten.

Whether you have a family member who served, are a Veteran yourself, or simply want to better understand the sacrifices made for our country, this is an experience that will leave a lasting impact.

Join us this Memorial Day season as we honor our local heroes and reflect on the true meaning of remembrance.

We hope you will take the time to visit, pay your respects, and help us keep these stories alive for future generations.
