A number of folks have inquired as to when the Old Stone House will reopen. The site is normally staffed by students at Slippery Rock University who serve as docents giving tours and supporting educational programming. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, however, most classes at SRU for the Fall semester are online. As there are not sufficient students available to staff the site, the Stone House will remain closed through the remainder of 2020.

We apologize for this inconvenience, and appreciate your understanding.

In this time of social distancing, it's good to recall gatherings from the past and look forward to them in our future. Here's a photo from our archives of the "Brown Family Reunion" of 1987, taken on the Stone House front porch.
Presumably this would have been descendants of the original builder of the Old Stone House, John Brown (of Oliver).

Friends,
As you may already know, PA State System Chancellor Dan Greenstein has directed that "the suspension of in-person classes across Pennsylvania’s 14 state-owned universities, and all in-person learning experiences, including clinical rotations, internships, student teaching and field trips" will continue through the summer 2020 session as a public safety measure in response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

As the Old Stone House is owned by Slippery Rock University and staffed by SRU students, this means we will not open for the Summer 2020 season.

As disappointing as this is, it also provides an opportunity for pausing to reflect and evaluate how we can best serve the community in new ways once the period of "social distancing" comes to an end. We wish you all good health, and look forward to the future when the house can once again be a place of connection, learning, and fun.
