The museum's mission is to foster the experiences that connect people with the lasting cultural and economic impact from the discovery of oil in South Arkansas during the 1920’s, and the brine used in bromine extraction. This is accomplished through collecting, preserving, and i

nterpreting their ever-changing story. Main theme:
Experience the discovery and uses of petroleum and brine, and their lasting impact on the culture, economy, and environment of South Arkansas. Brine/Bromine Theme:
Once considered a worthless byproduct, the unique deposit of brine/bromine in South AR and their many changing processes impacted and enriched lives, created environmental awareness, and left a continuing legacy. Petroleum Theme:
The formation and discovery of petroleum changed the course of South AR from a farming community to an industrial economy, altered lives, and brought the state into modern times. Environment/Ecology Theme:
The discovery of petroleum in south Arkansas devastated the environment and ecology, but better industry practices and regulations fostered awareness and responsibility resulting in nature reclaiming itself. Culture Theme:
The Roaring 20s hit S. AR with a boom and forced the rural area to embrace changing technologies, events, and culture which have been preserved for future generations. Economy Theme:
The discovery of petroleum and brine produced a widespread economic impact which, triggered a spirit of commerce allowing for substantial growth in towns, business, and jobs for diverse groups of people.
