Fred and Laurie Beck, the owners of The Main Gallery Smithville have announced that this Friday’s show featuring Jöelle Andrew’s artwork will be the final show of the gallery. The Becks created the Main Gallery in 2022. The goal of the gallery was to support interesting new artists and offer a venue for high quality contemporary art in Smithville.
“Laurie and I have always tried to support emerging artists- usually by collecting works of those that interested us. The gallery was an experiment that we committed to when we first retired and moved to the ‘Ville. At that time, and with eyes wide open, we decided that we would give it a real chance to succeed. We decided that we would review our success (or lack thereof) after two years. It has now been two and a half years and we realize that although we have loved the process, we have not been able to make the gallery into the sort of self-supporting venture that we had hoped. It is time for us to move on to new adventures. We have had a great time meeting wonderful artists and many beautiful people in Smithville and consider the process to have been a wonderful journey and experience. We have no regrets other than the knowledge that we will miss regularly seeing our gallery friends.”
