What a beautiful day for a field trip to San Marcos! Several of our members came out for a fabulous lunch at Ivar’s River Pub looking over the Guadalupe River. Such a fantastic view with great food and service.
We do love to eat together!
Then we made our way over to the glass bottom boat for our view of the springs in the aquifer at Spring Lake. It’s amazing the history at this place which was called Aquarena Springs and had a variety of tourist attractions at this location. Now it’s under the direction of Texas State University using student guides as captains who have lots of knowledge of the area and its geography. Our final stop was their little aquarium that housed their many treasures found on the property and a variety of fish species in the lake.
So many great pictures to choose, it was hard to leave any out……

The last spring meeting and luncheon for Smithville Garden Club was today with a garden tour following. We will be on summer break until our next meeting in late September. But no fear, we will still be working our garden areas around town and having summer meetings of officers getting ready for our fall meetings and November Tour of Homes!!!

After the luncheon was a short meeting followed by a tour of Donna Dean’s yard who was honored with our “Gardener of the Year” award. She is so deserving of this award and is truly a rose in our garden of members 🌹

The Smithville Garden Club is happy to present scholarships to Carter Natal for $750 and Kennedy Pietsch for $750. Each year the club offers a $1500 scholarship to a graduating student in our area but this year we had several applicants so two students were selected. Committee members Ann Fulcher and Kathy Bertram presented the checks along with Sharon Foerster, mayor of Sville and a SGC member. Congratulations to these students.

Garden club members took a tour of two gardens today in Bastrop’s Tahitian Village. Such beautiful gardens…. Thanks for opening your yards to visitors.
