-19 fund raiser
The challenge is on

04/18/2020

In the advent of Covid-19 the administration of this page deem it befitting to raise fund in this difficult moment to support the vulnerable and economically deprived members of The Marenah clan and other relatives in kudang.
It is therefore our individual and social obligation to sacrifice the little we can and help our people in any form in our own little ways especially as Ramadan approach.
We therefore call on everyone following the page especially indigenous Kudangkas and friends of friends to voluntarily contribute in either kind or cash so as to fulfill this moral, social and religious duty.

Continuation!

As a result of this interface and interaction with the Serehula tribe and long settling and engagements with both Mandinka and Sarahuli most of the Marenah are seen as either a Sarahuli as in the case of the surname "Marega". This long settling and interaction started in present day Mali and later Guinea Bissau. It's also said that most female first born are given the name Tiana. Tiana was the wife of our great grand Father.

Our great grand father is Fa Abdullahi marega a contemporary of "Salim soare " , a jahanka cleric they were believed to be Wali (Saint), cleric , trader and farmer .His descendant dispersed to Kunyakari in a village called Mullins .The two scholars travelled far and wide avoiding states where there is political upheaval , their love for peace and spreading word of God cemented their relationship that they were virtually inseparable but as fate will have it they parted ways in Guinea where Fa abdullahi settled and Salim proceeded to Senegambia region specifically Senegal .

He settled on the mountains with his wife who was pregnant , after few months she gave birth to his first son Muhammed Lamin in Guinea Bissau he established another settlement which was called tiyana k***a , the said place where he rest his sword and perfom ablution , and the footprint of him and his wife can markedly recognisable to date . Due to his religious piety and his immense wealth as a trader he was famous , and traders who are en route will pass by his settlement and take rest and eat .He is known to give out 100 basin/plate/bowls of food everyday for charity to those who pass by through his settlement and also as customary whenever he is giving out money he usual gives in Hundreds, that explains the "Kemmeh Tiyanna tag" .His act of benevolence led to the surname sometimes referred to as " kemmeh tiana" .Kemmeh in mandinka means hundred, tiana the name of the wife , this made tiyana k***a very popular and revered .This explains why the first born in most marenah family if male is named " mbember " or Abdullahi and if female she's named "Tiana".
Before his retreat to Timbuktu where he eventually died , and his grave can be found Timbuktu Tomb. Before his retreat to Timbuktu he had established four KAbilos (Clans) in Bissau Guinea.
These kabilos are Kang Alagie, Kang ngaba, kang Foday and kang Arafah

His children migrated from Guinea to cassamance region in Senegal and some made it to Gambia. You can still find the surname Marenah Senegal, Gambia and in Guinea Bissau, mostly in Taina- k***a.

Update on The Marena Family.
As earlier alluded to by the previous post about the history and migration of our Great grand Father Mbember Abdoulie Marena.
I would like to correct the notion that we're Sarahuli by Tribe. As one of the early students of the Safi school of thought Member Abdoulie migrated from the East to the present day Mali, he settled in Timbuktu in order to propagate teachings of Islam. He lived in the bushes away from people in seclusion and worship , it is during this spiritual journey that he encountered a hunter who had shot his prey . This hunter was looking for the prey and accidentally met him and ask in the sarahuli dialect "havent you seen my prey?, the animal he had shot and because he couldn't speak the language he responded in Arabic "Ma-rai-atuka" so the man corrupted it to "Marega" and thats how the surnamen Marena/marega came into being....
