We have two upcoming events to announce.

* Exhibit of the Hausman-Hill collection of Scientific, Surveying and Measuring Instruments - March 16th
* Empire Builders of Solebury - April 27th

Scientific, Surveying and Measuring Instruments: Join us on March 16th for an exhibit talk with Solebury’s own Jim Hill. The Hausman-Hill collection of scientific, surveying and measuring instruments helped define our nation’s boundaries. The exhibit showcases the work of significant early makers of measuring implements, such as notable 18th and 19th-century craftsmen Anthony Lamb, Rufus Porter, Thomas Greenough, William Wurdemann and the Chapin Family of Connecticut. Historic photographs, patents and documents of these makers add to the exhibit’s appeal. This collection has been shown at the Mercer and other local history organizations. Don’t miss this opportunity! Exhibit will be open from 2pm to 6pm. This is free to members, $10 for non-members and will be held at our STHS schoolhouse.

Empire Builders of Solebury: Large land grants in Bucks County were based on William Penn's land charter from King Charles II in 1681. Since then there have been several folks who built land "empires" in Bucks County within Penn's charter. David Johnson from the Land Trust of Bucks County has been researching these individuals and putting together how, why and what became of their legacies and ultimately were their empires preserved. Lowell Birrell who succeeded financially in mysterious ways has one of the most interesting stories of this land acquisition topic. Come join us for a talk and learn how this area was developed by the Empire Builders. Talk to begin at 2pm. This is free to members, $10 for non-members and will be held at our STHS schoolhouse.
