On Tuesday, October 28, 2025, we will be having an open house and plant sale at the Solon Historical Society, at 28 South Maine St. in Solon Maine.
Coffee, apple cider and some goodies will be on hand. Stop by between 10am and 2pm and have a refreshment and pick up a new plant that you didn't know you needed!!! And check out some of Solon's history!

Gone but not forgotten. Reds Place Luncheon, Virginia Andrews store and Bait, Bolts & Bullets all called this building home over the years. It was built sometime after the big fire of 1925. Demolished in March of 2023. We were told in the late 1930's, early 1940's, when it was Red's, you could get a dynamite in a hot dog roll and a glass of milk for 15 cents! Nice memories!

We will be reopening March 7, 2023. We have several new copies of "Sketches from ...Solon's history" printed and ready for sale. $15.00 at the history house or $20.00 mailed. We have been working on some of ours displays over the winter and are excited to share them with you all. Pictures are coming as soon as we are done.

For those that don't know, "Sketches from .. Solon's history" is a photocopied book of the original book that was made for the Solon Sesquicentennial in 1959. It covers the history of Solon from 1809-1959.

Solon Historical Society 2023 Schedule

Meetings are the 4th Monday of every month, at 6:30 pm. No meetings in December, January, February.

The History House is open every Tuesday from 10am-2pm March through November. We are open by appointment only for December, January, and February. Call Chris Shaw at 207-557-5818 for an appointment or, [email protected]

New Members Are Always Welcomed and Needed. They don’t need to come every Tuesday to volunteer. More members make for a better Solon Historical Society! Dues are $5.00 per year.

Speaking of historic buildings in Solon Maine, has everybody checked out the new Solon Hotel page? If not, head over to that page. Faith and Bruce Goguen are renovating this historic building. And what a job they have done!! They will forever have the gratitude of this town for saving this building.
