Somerset Artists' Co-Op

Somerset Artists' Co-Op Shop open on Saturdays 11:00am-5:00pm Our mission is to create and celebrate art within the community. You may also visit by appointment.

The Somerset Artists' Co-Op creates and celebrates art with our community, providing public and private classes in a variety of art forms including painting ,ceramics, resin metalsmithing, stained glass and more. The Somerset Artists’ Co-Op began in 2012 when a group of enthusiastic, hard working individuals with a passion for art decided to bring the arts to the village of Somerset. Many local a

rtists draw inspiration from the area’s natural resources such as clay and natural gas to throw one-of-a-kind ceramics, picturesque scenery to paint captivating landscapes, homegrown gourds to fashion storage containers and much more. Somerset Artists’ Co-Op is a non-profit organization and is supported by contributions from local businesses, students’ class fees, membership dues, gallery commissions, fund raisers and a grant from the Ohio Arts Council. The Co-Op promotes involvement of our members and our community by offering a variety of classes and workshops. Our fees are kept affordable in order to keep artistic opportunities within easy reach. Our workshops are as creative as the imaginative minds that develop them. A short list includes:

- Wheel-turned, hand building, and slip poured pottery
- Fiber Art
- Stained Glass
- Glass Enameling
- Jewelry Making
- Pastel
- Watercolor
- Acrylic Painting

Our Gallery Shop may feature special weekend hours during holiday seasons. Visit our website to contact us and join one of our many classes. We're looking forward to seeing you!

Meet your guides for our monthly hikes..

Grant Joy is a historian, tour guide and former Americorps member who came to Shawnee and decided to make it his home. Grant has created interpretive walking tours of Shawnee showcasing our town's rich history, architectural buildings and our beautiful trails. When Grant isn't working at HAPCAP, you can find him hiking the local trails, volunteering in the village or packing his car for a camping trip, sporting event or live music concert.

Diana Forester is a lifetime resident of New Straitsville who is actively involved in preserving the community. Diana is retired from Hocking Valley Community Hospital and worked 30 years at Hocking College. She enjoys spending time with her son and granddaughters. Diana loves music and attending concerts, but most of all enjoys being outdoors. You can often find her on the trails hiking or out walking.

Thomas Colvin is a long time resident of Shawnee. He is an avid brick collector and hosts the annual Shawnee Brick Swap. He is a valued volunteer who helps restore Veterans headstones, hangs veterans banners and flags, bakes cakes for the local church dinners and walks his neighbors dog. Tom enjoys working in his gardens and leads our Spring Hike to the Whetsel Rock.

This Saturday kicks off our first monthly hike. We will meet at Tecumseh Lake at 9:00 am and hike the 3 mile Woodthrush loop.
