Somerville Museum Building Fund Raising funds for renovating the Museum building to meet American with Disabilities Act guidelines. We are off to a fantastic start! We can do this!

We needed to raise $200,000 for the ADA project, and have just received a grant for $85,000 toward this from the Wallace Foundation. That leaves us with a balance of $115,000 to raise. SOS First Look Exhibit

April 23 - May 15, 2018
Opening Reception: Sunday, April 22, 4-6 pm
at the Somerville Museum on 1 Westwood Road

The SOS First Look Exhibit offers the best opportunity to preview the studios and artists' work. All SOS participating artists are invited to submit work, creating a group show that is unparalleled in diversity and excitement. Come to SOS First Look to plan your weekend.

On all three days of SOS weekend, the First Look Exhibit opens earlier than the rest of SOS.

Thurs-Fri, April 26-27: 2-8 pm
Sat, April 28: 12-8 pm
Sun, April 29: 12-5 pm
Wed, May 2: 5-8 pm
Thurs, May 3: 2-8 pm
Fri, May 4: 2-9 pm
Sat-Sun, May 5-6: 11-6 pm

Just FYI - the painters had to go to another job site for two weeks, but will be returning to finish the job by the end of the month ( we hope - never can tell with weather, etc.) - but soon in any event.

We were awarded a grant of $85,000 toward the ADA project by the Wallace Foundation. Now we have to match it. Won't hear from the Mass Cultural Facilities Fund about the match until July this year. Keep your fingers crossed!

Starting to work on the IMLS grant for collection care. Wrote a grant to the National Endowment for the Humanities to help support insulation of the building now that the roof is done. Won't hear until October. It's a matching grant and we are asking for $67,000 to put in interior storm windows, automated shades for the upper story windows, insulation in the attic and environmental monitors. Mundane you say? Not for collections and heating bills!

Looking into grants at the National Endowment for the Arts and the Institute of Museum and Library Services. Looks like January will be a busy month for writing!
