This week’s Google Doodle celebrates the vibrant legacy of disco—a cultural movement that brought people together through music, creativity, self-expression, and joy.

We're celebrating that same spirit at Sonoma Valley Museum of Art with "John Paul Morabito: Dancing in the Night," an exhibition inspired by disco culture and its enduring influence on art, fashion, identity, and community.

Come experience the energy, sparkle, and exuberance of disco in the galleries and see how art continues to bring us together through joy.

Learn more about the creation of The Art of Disco Doodle and discover the story behind the unique artwork.

Artist Ryoko Adachi from a former SVMA exhibition was featured recently in Lenscratch:
“I felt transported to another world at the ‘Book Becoming Art’ exhibition at the SVMA (Sonoma Valley Museum of Art) last year, which showcased contemporary artist books inspired by Japanese aesthetics. One of the works that captivated me was Jack and the Beanstalk by Ryoko Adachi. I spent hours immersed in it, fascinated by its uniqueness and by the beautiful, seamless way she translated scientific phenomena into visual and tactile experience.”

We loved having the 2nd- and 3rd-graders from Presentation School at SVMA today for fun studio activities and a gallery tour. Their handmade headbands were an expression of their authentic personalities. SVMA welcomes school and camp groups year-round. SVMA students K-12 and their teachers are admitted free and can experience the current exhibition on a self-guided visit, or when booked in advance, with a Museum Guide.

Thank you to everyone who helped plan and participate in last weekend’s opening celebration for Norma I. Quintana: Paradise of Memory/Paraíso de la Memoria and John Paul Morabito: Dancing in the Night at the Sonoma Valley Museum of Art.

A heartfelt thank you to Norma and John Paul for sharing such personal, joyful, and deeply moving work with our community, and thank you to our exhibition sponsors whose support helps make these exhibitions and programs possible.

It was wonderful to see so many friends, supporters, collaborators, and portrait subjects come together to celebrate these shows and the connections they inspire. We hope you’ll visit the museum this summer to experience both exhibitions for yourself and even add your own self-portraits to the evolving conversation around memory, identity, transformation, and expression.

On view through September 6.
