Sitting in the setting Sonoma sun sit the set of cars once stored in Salinas. The multiple treks our volunteers made down there to ensure they made the journey without issue paid off.

Greetings friends of the GGRM!

We have some projects this weekend (February 7, 2026) in Schellville that we can use some help on:

Polishing of FM 1487. We'd like to get it's faded orange polished back to it's vibrant SP tiger stripe scheme, and then washed and waxed. If we have 3 or 4 people, it should take a couple hours.

Needle gunning Oakland Underframe. We will be getting ready to paint the underframe of the Oakland in the coming weeks (weather dependent) and need to get the loose paint off of the underframe of the Oakland. This will involve needle scaling and wire wheeling.

So if you can run a polishing wheel or needle gun or are willing to learn, come on down. A pizza lunch will be provided. We will meet around 10 AM at the Schellville yard.

Our yard is located at: 22725D Eighth Street East, Sonoma, CA 95476

Executive Business car SP 141 'Oakland' was pulled out into the winter afternoon sun and we couldn't help but hang the drumhead.

We will begin prepping the under body for paint in the coming days before moving on to painting the body in the spring.

Once complete, we hope to operate this car as our Executive Class service through Sonoma's vineyards and tidelands on our excursion trains.

Andrés at Symphonic Finishing of Cloverdale has been hard at work on the interior of our business car Oakland. Work is being done to repaint the dining room ceiling and the bathroom. Here you can see the bathroom has been stripped of hardware in preparation of painting. The dining room ceiling has been stripped to bare metal and a steel manufacturer's mark has been uncovered. Mark looks like its from Youngstown Sheet and Tube. The Bathroom has been stripped of hardware in preparation of painting.

December Diesel Daze.

Chilly December has seen our Schellville crews organizing the yard and doing some diesel work.

GP9 3194 is down for some battery and battery box maintenance. FM 1487 pulls out the 1954 Built GP9 to access the battery boxes with the forklift. Phil and Seth wrestle the 300 pound batteries out while David operates the forklift.

We hope things will heat up in the coming year (in more ways than one) so keep an eye out for new volunteering opportunities in breathing life into our equipment.

A little early for throwback Thursday, but we couldn't wait. Here is the 2472 climbing up Cuesta Grade out of San Luis Obispo in 1994, when mainline excursions were still a thing.

Over the past week, our Lounge Car 'Neil Vodden' made it's way to the California State Railroad Museum via SMART Freight, California Northern Railroad, and Union Pacific. The car will be on loan for CSRM's Polar Express service this holiday season.
