Pecora's MicaMineSchoolhouse Tours

is a New England based Mines and Mining Historian, Educator, and History Educator for learners of all ages 5 to 85+...

You are guaranteed to learn something new with him as your mineral adventure tour guide! Most all tours include Museum show, touch and tell.

Pecora offers Mineral Adventure Tours throughout New England all year long, here is how they work.

There is "No Set Schedule" for any tours. Tours come about when someone or some group hires the Mica Mine Schoolhouse for the day! Daily rate is a minimum of $250, some tours are $350, tips of grattitude or food are always welcome and appreciated.
[P.S. If your group is small, then Jim will open the tour to the public to fill the slots.]

The smaller the group, the greater the number of places you can go. 1-8 persons is ideal, in a max of three cars including Jims. For larger groups such as homeschoolers the tour places are limited due to parking restrictions. Some schools provide the transportation and Jim rides along.

NOTE: Pecora does not live in the Mining District of SW NH. So he has travel expenses as well as overnight accomidations for most tours. This is a labor of love, not some huge money making enterprise.

The Mica Mine Schoolhouse also conducts in school programs K-12 and beyond. Many of these can be subsidized. So make your inquiry.

Pecora also provides full length Educational Lectures throughout the Northeast on Dozens of Mineral related topics. As well as short presentations 20-30 min on all sorts of little known History. And he has created many 5min "Lightning talks."

Lastly, Pecora offers guided educational talks at his two Museums and . These can be combined with tours.

Mineral Adventure Tours by season:

January and February are the phenominal "Ice Mines" Fluorescent Mineral Adventure tours. We go when hired to go.

March we offer indoor tours at three Museums: Harvard Mineral Museum in Cambridge, Connecticut Museum of Mines and Mining in Kent CT, and Maine Mineral Museum in Bethel, ME.

April we take out Friends of the Museum and Museum Apprentices or Associates for Research, Reconnaissance and trail Maintenance.

May through October our Museum in South Acworth NH is our seasonal tour headquarters. This Museum which has displays on the mines and minerals of NH and VT is open on your honor via free will donations 7 days a week 9 to 6pm. Private Schools, Homeschoolers, Mineral Clubs, Historical Societies, and other groups or individuals contract us for tours on dates of their choosing. We begin at the Museum for an educational mineral overview and then head out on tour.

June has two special offerings: Megalithic New England June 21st Summer Solstice Sunrise and Sunset tour at America's Stonehenge in Salem, NH.

Then rare 1/2 day as well as full day guided mineral prospecting opportunities for small groups only, 1-6 persons. These are offered before during and after the Gilsum Rock Swap. Approximately June 25 - 30th.

October offers our our yearly foliage harvest celebration, an afternoon and evening of food, games and live music in South Acworth, NH. The home of the New England Mineral Museum.

What do you think happened?

What do you think happened?

In November 2024, as the Schwarzhorag Glacier in the Swiss Alps continued to melt, archaeologists stumbled upon something no one expected โ€” a two-wheeled bamboo cart emerging from the ice. ๐Ÿ›ž

The find is puzzling: bamboo wasnโ€™t introduced to Europe until the late 18th or early 19th century, yet this cart was discovered high in the Alps, far from any known trade routes where such material would have appeared.

Whether it was part of an expedition, a misplaced relic, or something else entirely, its presence โ€” and whatever it once carried โ€” remains a mystery.

As glaciers retreat, theyโ€™re revealing traces of forgotten journeys and lost stories once locked in the ice.
