Our thanks to everyone who turned out for this year’s car show, and a special thanks to historical society board member Chuck Igo who gave this year’s reading of the Declaration of Independence. Have a wonderful summer, everyone!

We have a great forecast in store for tomorrow's Independence Day Classic Car Show, presented by Yankee Ford. Sunny, a little breeze and 75 degrees! The show starts at 11am and runs until 2pm. Food trucks will be on site throughout the event. The Summer in Maine Auction will be set up outside and after the reading of the Declaration of Independence at 12noon, we'll close the auction so people have time to pay for and pick up their items (you don't need to be present to win). Expect a lovely display of kite flying from the NorEasters Kite Club, as well - members will be flying their kites in the park throughout the car show. Hope to see you there!!!

What a wonderful day and awesome people - we just love this community! We held the Independence Day Classic Car Show today with scattered rain showers. A HUGE thank you to everyone who came out, who didn't let the passing rain showers dampen the day one bit, and who bid on our Summer in Maine Auction - we were overwhelmed by the generosity - this is a huge fundraiser for our historical society. You all rock!!! A special thanks to Chuck Igo who did the reading of the Declaration in style, and to Mother Nature for holding off the rain during the reading so that we could use the sound system :) Thanks to our title sponsor Yankee Ford, and to supporting sponsor S**o & Biddeford Savings Institution. What a lovely day. Thank you, all, and Happy 4th!!!

With unsettled weather in our forecast for the coming week(s), including on our planned rain date, we have made the decision to hold the car show tomorrow, July 4th, as planned. The prediction at the moment is for cloudy skies with a "chance" of a scattered shower. Given how the weather has been of late, we'll take it. We hope that you all will still join us and not let the forecast deter you from coming out to enjoy summer. It's bound to be a fun day. And we'll all pray that we get a few hours with no rain drops at all! Car show is from 11am to 2pm. Reading of the Declaration of Independence is at noon. The Summer in Maine Auction is expected to close at 12:30 (after the reading is concluded). Food provided by food trucks. Hope to see you there!!!

At this moment, we are still planning to hold the car show on the 4th. Pray with us for the weather forecast to look ok in the morning? We'll make a decision at some point tomorrow (Monday) and will post our plans. Right now, the forecast for Tuesday and Saturday (our rain date) are eerily similar (along with almost every other day this week - as our weather can be described as "unsettled'), and some forecasts are saying the rain will hold off until the afternoon on Tuesday. Fingers crossed!

The Summer in Maine Auction has started. Go to the South Portland Historical Society FB page for the current list of auction items. You can bid on auction item #28 - a $50 gift card to Verbena, 103 Ocean Street, South Portland. Bidding is at only $10 for this gift card - let's help get that value up! Auction proceeds support the South Portland Historical Society and its museum. You can bid in person at the museum, or send your bid my message or email to [email protected]. If you are the winning bidder when the auction closes on July 4th, you can pick up the gift card from the museum or we can mail it to you for an additional $1. Check the auction listings regularly, as bidding amounts will change and new auction items are added.

Happy 4th of July, everyone! We're excited about the car show - at Bug Light Park today from 11am to 2pm. Our thanks to the title sponsor of the car show, Yankee Ford! Proceeds from the car show help us to keep our museum in the park open to the public with free admission. In addition to the display of antique and classic cars, the Summer in Maine Auction will be set up silent-auction-style on tables outside the museum; bidding will close just after the reading of the Declaration of Independence (read this year by board member Chuck Igo). Our thanks also to members of the NorEasters Kite Club who will be at the park with us today flying their awesome kites. We'll be joined by the PB&ME food truck which offers an interesting selection of grilled sandwiches, hot dogs and more. Hope to see you there!
