Drawing is fun and it helps putting a painting together, drawing in the composition, the outlines of shapes with thinned paint to begin, but painting is so much more challenging. It’s all about seeing color in every light, from light to dark and mixing those tones and shades, far more challenging, but magical when you get it right.
I lost years of sketchbooks in the flood from hurricane Ian. All these are new, 2026.

What is Art?
We are told to live in the present, not in the past, not in the future, although I would argue if we didn’t live in the future in our heads, in our dreams, we would never get anywhere. At this time in my life, I am more conscious, far more conscious than when I was young that the present is like a fast flowing stream of water running through my fingers and I want to say, Wait a minute, I want to enjoy these moments of pure beauty, of sunlight and rain, of color and people and kindness, that the world is overflowing with, I want to enjoy those moments a little longer, I want to return to them again and again and add to that the unique magic of oil paint,I think maybe that is Art for me, or my reason for trying to create art.
Begun today: #1502 “Water Wings”, OIL,
18 X 18. Mostly there will let it dry and then see and decide what more want to do.

Last week’s class demo:
I somehow forgot to include my box of canvas in with my gear last week, so I started the demo on my pallet pad sheet, demonstrating the basic steps, the process.
We borrowed this lovely photo of a spoonbill from the Internet for teaching purposes. Later I photographed the demo and used my office printer to print the demo on a canvas sheet so I could finish the painting & show the importance of value contrast to create depth. Actually, I fooled around with the size and ended up doing two,
one a 6 x 6, and an 8 x 8. I will bring them to class this Wednesday and the day after that, on Thursday, I will see the ❤️specialist and find out what tests I need & how soon I will need surgery. For the most part, I’m just trying to keep my mind off it.
