At the Southport Town Hall, 361 Hendricks Hill Road (Rte. 27), Southport.

“Sailmaking with Sherm Brewer”, a talk about Sherm’s experiences in the profession, and the local history of this trade.

Southport native Sherm Brewer learned the craft of sailmaking at the loft of Nathaniel Wilson. He has constructed sails for boats ranging from dinghies to historic ships, including a full set for the Ernestina-Morrissey. Nat retired in 2023, handing the baton to Sherman to continue the sailmaking tradition in the East Boothbay sail loft.

The Hendricks Hill Museum salutes the life and memory of Donald Duncan of Southport. Donald was born in New York in 1928 and eventually moved permanently to Southport with his wife, Joyce Schneider, of 64 years. Donald was predeceased by his bride. He passed away on February 24, 2025. Both Donald and Joyce were acknowledged for their contributions to the Museum by having the Lecture Series named "the Joyce and Donald Duncan Lecture Series." Donald served as a Trustee of the museum for 25 years starting in 1999. He was also a member of the Town of Southport's Planning Board from 1999 to 2022. His intelligence, experience, dedication, wit, and friendship will be missed. Here's Donald overseeing a new acquisition, a SYC Catboat Class, to the collection of boats at the museum.

Alvin Brewer, Ed Marr, and ? on the right. Sea turtle caught with help from what looks like a rifle and a harpoon. Photo taken in the early to mid 1930s on the SYC float. In those days the floats were made with pontoons and had to be pumped out every once in a while. Styrofoam as flotation was not used in those days.

Olive Stratton loved Southport Island. In fact, she may have been the one to coin the phrase"god's country" from her own personal viewpoint or as a Real Estate business owner. She was a good friend with my mother and I think offered much "behind the scenes" in our community. She was a veteran as the photo depicts. Do you remember Olive?
