This is a picture of Calee and I in the New York City courthouse on the day we were married there. Yes, that's me, and yes, I married up. Why NYC? Because we’re the biggest of dreamers and thought it would be romantic. It was.
About four and a half years ago our big dreams started to formulate around opening a thrift store in Oak City, Utah. And we did it. It was a ton of work - a true blood, sweat, and tears story. I joke with people that this is how I looked before I opened a store in Oak City.
It was no small thing to get the store open, and it's no small thing to close it these four plus years later. It makes for a heavy heart. It was a family affair. It was a community affair. Our lives were touched and I hope we touched yours.
I realize more and more that knowledge is really one of the ultimate pursuits in life. We gained that and then some with The Millard County Thrift Store. My favorite lesson? The power of community.
We love you Oak City, Millard County, and all of our friendly patrons from all over the place! We're so grateful for your words of encouragement (and caution), donations, and business. Your support and friendship has meant the world to us as a family. It's been a pleasure to meet and greet you, hear about your lives, and bring a little of ourselves to this little, big town.
Last week, I handed the keys to the building over to it's new tenants with big dreams of their own. I think you're going to love what they're planning to do here. I’m happy we created a place that others can build on, and I can't wait to see what they do with it.
While our iteration of the store is no more, we are still here. Still painting pictures. Still listing on eBay. Still raising kids. Still dreaming big.
Surely we’ll see you around town, but please reach out anytime.
With so much dang love,
Brian, Calee, & Family
